Swim Instructor and Water Therapy Support

Swim Instructor – Private One-on-One Lessons | Additional Needs & Autism Focus
Deano’s Nemos is more than just a swim school…

At Deano’s Nemos, we believe swimming lessons are about so much more than learning to swim. They're about building confidence, developing essential water safety skills, overcoming fears and creating positive experiences that can make a lifelong difference.

Operating from our private, indoor heated facility in Rutherford, we specialise in one-on-one swimming lessons for children with additional needs, including autism, as well as children who have developed a fear of the water.

Our pool is heated and low chlorine, providing a welcoming environment for our swimmers all year round.

We've carefully created a calm, nurturing environment with minimal noise and distractions, allowing every swimmer to feel safe, comfortable and supported.

Our approach focuses on the individual needs of each swimmer, recognising that every child learns differently and progresses at their own pace.

We're looking for a passionate and dedicated Swim Instructor to join our team and help us continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and their families.

The Role

This is a unique and rewarding prospect for someone who wants to make a genuine difference through swimming.

As a Swim Instructor at Deano’s Nemos, you'll deliver private one-on-one lessons tailored to each swimmer's individual abilities, needs and goals.

You’ll work closely with children who may require additional patience, understanding and creative teaching approaches to help them develop confidence, independence and essential water safety skills.

We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with our swimmers and their families. Consistency, patience and genuine care are at the heart of everything we do.

For many of our swimmers, routine and familiarity are essential to their progress,

so we're looking for someone who is committed to building lasting relationships and supporting each child's ongoing development.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver engaging, inclusive and individually tailored one-on-one swimming lessons.

- Support swimmers with autism, additional needs, sensory sensitivities and water-related anxieties.

- Develop water safety awareness, swimming skills and confidence at each swimmer's individual pace.

- Apply Autism Swim teaching principles and adapt lesson structures to suit individual learning needs.

- Use visual aids, sensory tools and creative teaching strategies to support engagement and learning.

- Maintain a calm, safe, encouraging and supportive learning environment.

- Build positive relationships with swimmers, parents and caregivers, providing regular feedback on progress.

- Provide consistency and structure to help swimmers feel comfortable and achieve their goals.

About You

We're looking for someone who is not only a capable swim instructor but also a compassionate, patient and enthusiastic individual.

The right attitude and genuine passion for helping children are just as important to us as experience.

You’ll be someone who:

- Has a genuine passion for working with children, particularly those with additional needs.

- Is patient, empathetic, understanding and encouraging.

- Enjoys building meaningful relationships with children and their families.

- Can adapt their communication and teaching style to suit different abilities and personalities.

- Is reliable, committed and understands the importance of routine and consistency.

- Is enthusiastic about learning new skills and developing professionally.

- Can think creatively and remain calm when faced with challenges.

Essential Qualifications

- Current Working with Children Check.

- Valid AUSTSWIM or Swim Australia teaching qualification.

- Current First Aid and CPR certification.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Highly Regarded (But Not Essential)

- Autism Swim training or certification.

- Experience working with children with autism, disabilities or additional needs.

- Understanding of sensory processing differences and positive behavioural support strategies.

- Background in special education, occupational therapy or related fields.

- Experience adapting swimming lessons to support individual learning needs.

Don't have experience working with children with additional needs?

If you're a qualified swim instructor with the right attitude, patience and willingness to learn, we'd still love to hear from you!

What We Offer

- Competitive pay rates based on qualifications and experience.

- Rewarding one-on-one teaching where you can see the difference you're making.

- Ongoing professional development and opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills.

- Career progression opportunities , including potential management roles for the right candidate.

- A supportive, inclusive and welcoming team environment.

- A comfortable indoor heated facility , operating throughout the year with a break over Christmas.

- The opportunity to build genuine connections with swimmers and their families.

Most importantly, you'll be part of a swim school where your work has a real purpose, helping children overcome challenges, build confidence and develop potentially lifesaving water safety skills.
