The Opportunity:

A highly reputable, multigenerational family owned primary processing meat company is looking for an experienced Domestic Meat Trader to join its Melbourne team. This position has become available due to the retirement of a long standing employee and offers the successful person the opportunity to take over a fully established portfolio of loyal customers. The majority of your time will be spent managing and developing existing accounts, with a small focus on creating new business opportunities. This is a rare prospect to step into an established trading position with strong customer relationships, consistent sales volume and the support of a respected Australian family business.

The Role:

You'll be responsible for selling boxed meat by the carton and pallet load into retail butchers, manufacturers and other domestic customers. Your responsibilities will include:

• Taking ownership of an established customer portfolio and selling chilled and frozen boxed meat into the domestic Australian market. You'll be moving cartons by the pallet load to retail butchers and manufacturers.

• Maintaining regular contact with customers and managing their daily requirements. Negotiating pricing, volume and supply arrangements. Processing orders and managing accounts from enquiry through to delivery.

• Working closely with production, supply chain and operations to confirm product availability. Monitoring market pricing, customer demand and product movement.

• Identifying additional opportunities within the existing customer base whilst developing a smaller portfolio of new business. Achieving agreed sales, volume and margin targets.

The Candidate:





We are specifically looking for someone with a strong track record in domestic meat trading and boxed meat sales. To be considered, you'll need:

• Previous meat trading or meat sales experience and demonstrated experience moving boxed meat in commercial volumes.

• Established relationships with retail butchers, manufacturers or similar domestic customers and a strong knowledge of meat products, cuts, grades and specifications.

• Excellent relationship building and customer service skills. Along with strong pricing and negotiating capability and commercial awareness with the ability to protect margin.

• Experience managing an established customer portfolio and the confidence in developing new business when opportunities arise.

• The capability to work closely with production and supply chain teams and build trust between colleges.

This position will suit an experienced trader who understands that successful meat trading is built on product knowledge, trust, reliability and long term customer relationships.
