For the Books | Why be ordinary?
We’re a boutique bookkeeping and BAS agent practice. We work with creatives (authors, artists, makers, and the delightfully unconventional) and all kinds of small businesses. We're serious about compliance and helping clients, but not about ourselves.
We’re growing and need someone local(ish) who loves getting the details right the first time.
Why this role exists
Our clients rely on us for payroll, BAS, and clean books. Above all else, accuracy and timing matter. When payroll needs to land on a Monday, it needs to land on a Monday. We want someone who is on the ball during business hours, and can pick up the phone when a manager needs to sign off on timesheets.
What you’ll be doing
- Data entry, bank reconciliations, and day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero
- Processing payroll, including following up with clients, staff, and managers for approvals
- Working through Dext files for clients
- Flagging anything that doesn’t look right
- Working alongside our existing team members, who’ll train you and review your work
What we’re looking for
- Xero experience (essential)
- Dext, Employment Hero, and/or Tanda experience (a big plus)
- Some payroll experience. We’ll train you on the rest.
- Reliable attention to detail. You’re the person who notices when something’s out by 10 cents and can’t rest until it’s fixed.
- Strong tech skills. You pick up new software quickly and enjoy finding a better way to do things.
- Accuracy and speed: getting it right, without taking all week
We care more about how you think and how carefully you work than about your years of bookkeeping experience. Sharp, curious,
and reliable beats a long CV.
The details

- Pay: Clerks Award rates as a minimum, with room to negotiate for the right skills and experience
- This role is during business hours. It isn’t suited to evening or after-hours work.
