Australian Men's Health Forum
Brisbane
ABOUT THE COMPANY The Australian Men’s Health Forum (AMHF) is the national peak body for the health and wellbeing of boys and men. We bring together around 65 member organisations and 60 individual members, from national services to small volunteer-run groups, and a wider network of about 25,000 people who care about men’s health.
AMHF is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC). We work with members and government on prevention, early intervention and support in the places men actually go. AMHF is entering a period of renewal under a new CEO and a 2026–27 strategy focused on national advocacy, member growth and a more sustainable income base.
We’re also strengthening our finance and governance practices, and the Treasurer will play a central part in that work.
ROLE PURPOSE The Treasurer leads the Board’s oversight of AMHF’s finances. You’ll work closely with the CEO and our external finance provider, chair the Finance and Risk Committee, and help the Board make sound financial decisions as AMHF grows and diversifies its income. Like all directors, the Treasurer shares collective responsibility for AMHF’s governance under the ACNC Governance Standards and the Corporations Act 2001.

- Keep an eye on grant income and acquittals so AMHF meets its funding obligations
FINANCE AND RISK COMMITTEE

- Help the Board meet its ACNC reporting obligations, including the Annual Information Statement and financial report
STRATEGY AND SUPPORT
- Act as a sounding board for the CEO on strategic and operational financial decisions, including current income streams
- Be an authoriser on AMHF’s bank accounts
TIME COMMITMENT
- Board meetings: six a year, held online every second month on a Tuesday at 4pm AEDT (about 1.5 hours each)
- Finance and Risk Committee: six meetings a year, which the Treasurer chairs
- Reporting: preparing and presenting the Treasurer’s Report for each Board meeting
- Annual events: the Annual General Meeting each December, and an annual strategy day with the Board
SELECTION CRITERIA
ESSENTIAL
- Financial qualifications or substantial experience in financial management, accounting or audit
- Ability to read and interpret management accounts, budgets and audited financial statements, and explain them clearly to non-financial directors
- Sound judgement on financial risk, controls and solvency
- Commitment to AMHF’s purpose of improving the health and wellbeing of boys and men
- Eligibility to be a director: not disqualified under the Corporations Act 2001 or by the ACNC, and holding (or willing to obtain) a Director Identification Number
DESIRABLE
- Experience in the financial management of a not-for-profit, charity or grant-funded organisation
- Previous board, treasurer or audit and risk committee experience
- A CPA, CA or GAICD qualification
- Experience with Xero and not-for-profit grant acquittals
- An interest in, or lived experience of, men’s health and wellbeing
