A pioneering, founder-led business operating in the global energy sector, this rapidly growing organisation is developing technology and capability with the potential to reshape how energy is delivered at scale. Backed by a clear vision and solid momentum, the business is now entering a significant period of expansion, both in Australia and internationally. This General Counsel appointment offers the opportunity to lead and further develop the legal and governance function, strengthening its foundations and scaling it as the organisation grows.
Reporting directly to the Founder and as a key member of the leadership team, you will provide commercially pragmatic legal advice across energy contracts, general supply contracts, disputes, corporate, governance, and regulatory matters, acting as a key sounding board on strategy and risk. You will build on the existing legal frameworks, policies, processes, and systems, refining and strengthening them so they keep pace as operations expand into new markets. This is a genuinely broad, hands-on role, spanning strategic advice to the Founder and the advisory board through to day-to-day commercial and operational legal issues.
You are a trusted legal advisor with strong commercial judgement and a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach to negotiation and risk. An admitted Australian legal practitioner with 10+ years’ experience across corporate, commercial, litigation, energy or in-house legal roles, you bring a broad skill set and the confidence to operate autonomously in a fast-moving, evolving environment. Whether you are currently leading a legal function or are a senior lawyer seeking the next step in your career, you will be ready to take ownership of the legal agenda and grow with the business. Exposure to litigation and dispute management will be well regarded, as will a demonstrated ability to build and scale legal systems and processes in a growing business. You are curious, keen to learn, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to move seamlessly between strategic thinking and hands-on execution. Experience in energy, infrastructure, technology, or other founder-led, high-growth or start-up environments, will be highly regarded.
