About us

Fortiro is a growing fintech with a highly experienced team, backed by significant investment, and giving you the opportunity to contribute to an award-winning enterprise SaaS platform. Our technology uses emerging technologies and AI to help detect financial crime and enable automation in processes like lending and insurance claim verification. It is trusted by leading banks and financial services businesses in Australia, New Zealand, and globally.

About the role

Our platform processes millions of pages a year through a multi-engine Intelligent Document Processing pipeline that combines commercial OCR, document classification and downstream fraud-detection rules. As Fortiro continues to grow across ANZ and global markets, we’re looking for a senior engineer to take ownership of the IDP layer end-to-end. As our Senior IDP Engineer, you’ll own the platform and AWS infrastructure that powers our document-processing capability. You’ll lead and evolve our IDP capability end-to-end, improving document-processing quality, throughput, cost and resilience across every tenant and region.

This is a hands-on role with genuine technical ownership. You’ll work across the IDP platform end-to-end, solving complex technical problems, improving reliability and performance, and becoming the go-to person for how our document-processing capability runs and scales.

What you’ll be doing

- Own the end-to-end IDP pipeline, from file ingestion through OCR, classification, extraction and hand-off to fraud rules.
- Lead Fortiro’s multi-engine IDP strategy, including benchmarking, tuning and routing between engines.
- Own and improve the AWS infrastructure that runs the OCR estate, including capacity, upgrades, patching and disaster recovery.

- Define and track key platform metrics such as OCR confidence, classification accuracy, scan latency and queue time.
- Improve tenant isolation and scan performance so customer workloads remain reliable at scale.
- Build the dashboards, alerts and incident response practices that help detect and resolve IDP degradation early.
- Support a strong security posture across the IDP stack, including ISO 27001 and customer security review requirements.
- Codify infrastructure using Terraform or CloudFormation and reduce manually configured environments.
- Shape the IDP technical roadmap, support vendor conversations and mentor engineers on OCR and document classification.

What you’ll bring to the role

- Strong hands-on experience across document-processing, OCR or IDP platforms, including ownership of production infrastructure.
- Hands-on production experience with commercial IDP or OCR platforms such as ABBYY, Kofax, Google Document AI, AWS Textract or Azure Document Intelligence.
- Strong AWS experience across areas such as EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, CloudWatch, Systems Manager and Auto Scaling.
- Experience improving OCR quality, classification accuracy, throughput or latency in production environments.
- A solid understanding of modern IDP concepts, including document classification, layout analysis, field extraction, confidence scoring and human-in-the-loop verification.

- Familiarity with LLM-assisted document understanding or modern text/vision models.
- Infrastructure-as-Code experience, ideally with Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Strong scripting skills in Python and PowerShell or Bash.
- Comfortable working with observability tools such as OpenSearch, CloudWatch or Grafana.
- A practical understanding of networking, systems administration and enterprise security principles.
- Explicit communication, strong problem-solving skills and the ability to stay calm when troubleshooting complex production issues.
- A product and customer mindset, you understand that performance, reliability and accuracy directly impact customer outcomes.

Nice to have

- AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer.
- Experience integrating multiple OCR or IDP engines behind a single routing layer.
- Knowledge of security frameworks such as CIS Benchmarks, OWASP or the ACSC Essential Eight.
- Experience working in a multi-tenant SaaS environment.
