Where you'll be working

Royal North Shore Community Health Centre,

St Leonards.

What You'll Be Doing The Senior Paediatric Dietitian is a key member of the interdisciplinary Brighter Beginnings Health and Development Checks (BBHDC) Preschool Team, within the NSLHD Child, Youth and Family (CYF) Community Health Service. You’ll provide clinical leadership within a developmental surveillance screening service for preschool-aged children attending Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) services across Northern Sydney.

BBHDC is a collaboration between NSW Health and the NSW Department of Education. Its purpose is early identification of children’s health and developmental needs before school entry.

You’ll work within a structured service model focused on assessment, recommendation and referral. Your main contribution will be in the post-screening phase, providing discipline-specific input for children with nutritional concerns, including targeted follow-up to support safe and timely access to services. You’ll bring advanced expertise in infant and child nutrition in the first 2000 days to help families understand their child’s needs, and you’ll work in partnership with families, educators and CYF services, including families experiencing vulnerability and complexity.

You’ll contribute to case discussions, referral pathways and capacity-building for ECEC services, and, on a limited, critical-needs basis, provide consultation and multidisciplinary support to CYF services. When needed, you may also join the screening teams to conduct or observe screening activity in early childhood settings.

You’ll provide clinical leadership within scope of practice, support Level 1/2 clinicians and students, contribute to resources,

quality improvement and help maintain program fidelity.

Our philosophy of care is child-centred, culturally safe, trauma-informed, neurodiversity-affirming and evidence-based.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background encouraged to apply.

Candidates Will Need To Meet The Following Criteria

- Tertiary qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics that provides eligibility for full membership of Dietitians Australia.
- Demonstrated ability to apply advanced clinical reasoning and qualified judgement within a structured service model, including identification of needs, provision of evidence-informed recommendations, and determination of appropriate referral pathways (rather than ongoing intervention management).
- Demonstrated experience working in partnership with families and priority populations, including the ability to deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed, and family-centred care.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team, including providing discipline-specific consultation, contributing to case discussions, supporting consistent decision-making, and maintaining clear role boundaries within a shared service model.
