About the role

Core Environmental Projects is an employee-owned environmental, engineering, and design consultancy with a strong focus on landfill and contaminated site rehabilitation. We serve clients across Australia, specialising in landfill assessment and rehabilitation, vapour and gas building protection, construction quality assurance, and more.

We are seeking a Team Lead - Environmental Engineer to lead the delivery of environmental engineering and remediation projects across Sydney, based in our Parramatta office. This role combines technical ownership of your own project portfolio with day-to-day leadership of a team of engineers. It suits an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, takes pride in the quality of their team’s work, and is ready to line manage, coach and develop the people around them within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary consultancy.

What you will do

- Take end to end ownership of assigned projects, including scope, budget, programme, client reporting, and project financials
- Lead and line manage a team of engineers, setting clear priorities, allocating work, and monitoring workloads and utilisation across projects
- Plan and lead fieldwork including construction quality assurance, inspections, and verification of environmental protection, remediation, gas and vapour mitigation, containment, and geosynthetic systems
- Develop scopes of work, work plans, and fee proposals across projects of varying scale
- Manage client relationships independently, lead client meetings, and identify opportunities to extend or expand services
- Mentor and develop your team through regular feedback, performance conversations, onboarding of new starters, and structured technical guidance
- Prepare and approve safety documentation including HSMPs, JSAs and SWMS, and champion a proactive safety culture across the team

What we are looking for

- Degree in Environmental, Civil,



Chemical, Mechanical or Process Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Typically 8 to 10 years of relevant experience, with demonstrated experience delivering projects in the landfill and contaminated land sector
- Demonstrated experience leading, supervising or coordinating a team of technical professionals
- Proven ability to manage projects end to end, including scoping, budgeting, programme management, financial administration, and client reporting
- Thorough, current knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, EPA requirements, and environmental legislation
- Strong technical writing skills and the ability to prepare client-facing reports independently
- Explicit communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to give direction and constructive feedback
- Membership of Engineers Australia or a relevant professional body; Chartered status (CPEng, NER or RPEQ), or genuine progress toward it, is highly regarded
- White Card (General Construction Induction)
- Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to site, including overnight stays as required
