About the role

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Nurseryperson to join our team. The successful candidate will be involved in plant propagation, cultivation, irrigation and plant health management, contributing to the production of high-quality nursery stock.

We are looking for someone with sound horticultural knowledge, practical nursery experience and a positive attitude who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Tasks & Responsibilities

l Preparing and adjusting potting media mixtures and selecting suitable containers based on plant species, growth stages and cultivation requirements.

l Selecting suitable plant propagation materials, including seeds and cuttings, and carrying out propagation and planting activities using appropriate techniques for different plant varieties.

l Propagating plants through softwood and hardwood cuttings and handling tissue-cultured plantlets, applying appropriate techniques to support root establishment and healthy early growth.

l Watering plants manually or operating and adjusting automated irrigation systems according to plant varieties, growth stages and environmental conditions.

l Monitoring plant health, identifying signs of pests, diseases, weeds, nutritional deficiencies and environmental stress,



and applying appropriate pest control and plant treatments in accordance with established procedures.

l Maintaining and reviewing records of potting media, propagation, planting, plant treatments, growth performance, losses and yields to monitor production outcomes and identify areas for improvement.

l Assessing plant growth, health and quality, selecting plants ready for dispatch and coordinating with nursery staff responsible for packaging and delivery preparation.

l Preparing and updating plant care information, including suitable growing conditions, watering and maintenance requirements, to assist wholesale customers in selecting and caring for plants.

Qualifications & Experience

l Diploma or higher qualification in Horticulture, Agriculture, Plant Science or a closely related field

l Minimum one year of relevant work experience in nursery production, plant propagation, horticulture or a related field.

Knowledge & Skills

l Ability to assess plant growth conditions, identify problems and apply appropriate technical solutions.

l Competency in using nursery equipment and maintaining accurate production records.

l Knowledge of plant health management, pest and disease control, and nursery biosecurity practices.

l Sound knowledge of horticulture, plant biology, propagation and cultivation principles.

l Understanding plant nutrition, growing media, irrigation and environmental requirements.
