Full-Time Duty Manager
The Coogee Boathouse Eats & Sips – Port Coogee, WA
The Coogee Boathouse Eats & Sips is looking for an experienced Full-Time Duty Manager to join our front-of-house team.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who has spent a few years working in busy hospitality venues and is ready to take responsibility for how a service runs from start to finish.
We’re not looking for someone who simply holds a manager’s card. We want someone who understands hospitality, can lead from the floor, keeps an eye on the entire venue during service and genuinely cares about the experience our customers have when they visit us.
The Coogee Boathouse is a busy waterfront tavern overlooking the Port Coogee Marina. Our service is primarily counter-based, with a busy bar, food running, functions, events and a strong local customer base.
---
The Role
As Duty Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing front-of-house operations during your shifts and supporting the Venue Manager, Restaurant Manager and senior management team in the day-to-day running of the venue.
You’ll be expected to stay across the whole service — not just one section.
That means understanding how the bar is travelling, whether orders are moving efficiently, how the front-of-house team is performing, whether customers are being looked after and where you need to step in before a small issue becomes a bigger one.
Responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing front-of-house operations during service
- Leading and supporting the FOH and bar team throughout the shift
- Allocating staff and adjusting positions as service demands change
- Ensuring customers are welcomed, assisted and looked after throughout their visit
- Monitoring customer satisfaction and the overall atmosphere of the venue
- Handling customer concerns and complaints professionally and confidently
- Resolving service issues quickly and fairly
- Leading by example during busy periods
- Supporting staff with difficult customer situations when required
- Maintaining strong standards of customer service across the venue
- Overseeing bar and counter service
- Ensuring food running, clearing and general FOH duties are operating efficiently
- Monitoring venue presentation, cleanliness and readiness throughout service
- Assisting with opening and closing procedures
- Cash handling,
POS operations and end-of-shift procedures
- Ensuring RSA and liquor licensing requirements are followed
- Supporting functions, events and high-volume weekend services
- Communicating effectively with the kitchen and management team
- Helping train, guide and develop junior front-of-house staff
- Addressing staff performance or service issues appropriately during a shift
- Providing clear handovers and reporting any significant operational or customer matters to management
This is very much a hands-on Duty Manager position. You will still serve customers, work behind the bar, run food, clear tables and help wherever the team needs you. The difference is that while doing so, you are also watching the bigger picture and taking responsibility for the service.

What We're Looking For
To be considered, you will need:
- Minimum three years' front-of-house hospitality experience
- Previous experience in a busy tavern, pub, bar, restaurant or similarly high-volume venue
- A current and valid Approved Manager's Card
- Current RSA
- Experience overseeing or supervising a hospitality service
- Confidence directing and supporting other front-of-house staff
- Strong bar and general beverage service experience
- Good understanding of customer service and hospitality standards
- Confidence dealing with customer complaints and resolving problems
- The ability to stay calm and make sensible decisions under pressure
- Strong communication skills
- Good organisation and situational awareness during busy services
- Reliability and a strong work ethic
- The ability to take ownership of a shift rather than waiting to be told what needs attention
Most importantly, we want someone who takes pride in customer service.
We have built a solid local customer base at The Coogee Boathouse, and the experience people receive when they walk through the door matters to us. A Duty Manager should notice when someone hasn't been looked after properly,
when a customer needs assistance or when the service isn't flowing as it should — and do something about it.
You must be available to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.

Employment & Classification
This is a permanent full-time position.
The position will be classified at Level 3 or Level 4, depending on the successful applicant's experience, demonstrated capability and the level of responsibility undertaken within the role.
All applicable Award rates, weekend penalties, evening penalties, public holiday rates and employment entitlements will be paid accordingly.
For the right person, there is also genuine opportunity to take on further responsibility and progress within the business.

What We Offer
- Permanent full-time employment
- Level 3 or Level 4 classification depending on experience and capability
- Applicable penalty rates and Award entitlements
- Free parking
- Staff meals
- Staff drinks
- Staff discounts across our venues
- Consistent full-time hours

- A busy venue where your role genuinely matters
