Senior Architectural Drafter – Residential Design & Documentation

JJ Drafting is seeking a highly competent, experienced Architectural Drafter capable of independently managing the technical drafting and documentation requirements of residential building projects.

This is not an entry-level position.

We are looking for someone who understands not only how to produce architectural drawings, but why buildings are designed and documented in a particular way.

Essential requirements

Applicants must demonstrate:

- Advanced Archicad proficiency: Ability to independently develop, manage and coordinate complete architectural drawing packages.
- NSW planning knowledge: Sound working knowledge of Local Environmental Plans (LEPs), Development Control Plans (DCPs), the Housing SEPP and relevant DA and CDC approval pathways.
- National Construction Code: Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply relevant NCC provisions, construction standards and building requirements.
- Complete project documentation: Proven experience preparing architectural documentation for Development Applications (DA), Complying Development Certificates (CDC) and Construction Certificates (CC).
- Construction knowledge: Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, structural coordination, waterproofing, building envelopes and construction detailing.
- Technical problem-solving: Ability to identify design conflicts, planning non-compliances, missing information and documentation deficiencies before submission.
- Consultant coordination: Experience reviewing and incorporating structural engineering, stormwater, survey, BASIX/NatHERS and other consultant information.
- Independent project delivery: Ability to manage assigned projects, meet deadlines,



communicate outstanding issues and produce accurate documentation without constant supervision.

Minimum experience

- Preferably 5+ years of relevant Australian residential architectural drafting experience.
- Demonstrated experience working on projects within NSW.
- Proven capability in producing complete, coordinated construction documentation.
- Strong understanding of the relationship between planning approvals, technical design and construction requirements.

- Reviewing project briefs, survey information and applicable planning controls before commencing documentation.
- Identifying potential design or compliance issues and communicating them proactively.
- Developing comprehensive, accurate architectural drawing packages.
- Coordinating consultant information and resolving documentation discrepancies within their authority.
- Undertaking their own drawing quality assurance before submitting work for review.
- Taking ownership of assigned projects and escalating matters requiring senior decisions.

- A current CV outlining relevant project experience.
- Examples of completed DA, CDC and construction documentation.
- A description of their individual responsibilities on the projects submitted.
- Details of their Archicad experience.
- Two relevant qualified referees.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to undertake a practical technical assessment covering Archicad competency, residential construction documentation, planning interpretation and identification of drawing deficiencies.

Remuneration will reflect demonstrated technical competency, experience and ability to work independently.
