About the role

Codex Consulting Pty Ltd is seeking an AI Consultant to join our team on a full-time, permanent basis. You’ll design, develop, test and maintain AI-powered software applications and systems for enterprise clients, working alongside senior consultants, delivery leads and client teams.

You might come from a software engineering background now working with AI systems, or from an ML/AI engineering background with hands-on production experience. Either path works. What matters is that you build reliable, secure, real-world software, not just prototypes, and you’re energised by doing that in a rapid-moving, client-facing environment.

Key responsibilities

Software design and development

- Analyse client and business requirements and translate them into technical designs and specifications
- Design, code, test, debug and maintain software applications, including LLM-powered applications and AI agents
- Build multi-step workflows using tool use, memory and Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Develop RAG solutions that connect AI models with enterprise data, including chunking, embeddings, retrieval tuning and evaluation
- Build and maintain APIs, backend services, orchestration layers and data pipelines that support AI-driven workflows




- Modify and enhance existing software to fix faults, improve performance or meet new requirements

Testing and quality

- Write and run unit and integration tests, including tests for prompts, retrieval pipelines and agent flows
- Take part in peer code reviews and contribute to Codex’s engineering standards and reusable patterns
- Investigate and resolve software defects, performance issues and production incidents

Cloud and deployment

- Deploy and support applications on AWS using CI/CD (GitHub Actions or Bitbucket Pipelines), with evaluation, logging, tracing, monitoring and guardrails from day one
- Build solutions using AWS services such as Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda, ECS, Step Functions and API Gateway
- Use infrastructure as code (AWS CDK and/or Terraform) to manage environments
- Apply secure coding and deployment practices, including IAM least privilege, Secrets Manager, PII redaction and Bedrock Guardrails

Client delivery

- Help translate business problems into practical AI solutions that work in the real world
- Work closely with clients and cross-functional delivery teams to ship real outcomes
- Estimate effort, plan work and contribute to sprint planning in an Agile team
- Prepare and maintain clear technical documentation, including design documents and user guides

Skills and experience required

- Bachelor degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a closely related field
- Commercial experience as a Software Engineer, Software Developer or AI/ML Engineer




- Strong Python (or equivalent backend language), including APIs and modern backend architecture
- Sound knowledge of software design principles, testing and the software development life cycle
- Understanding of embeddings, vector databases (e.g. OpenSearch, pgvector, Pinecone) and model evaluation
- Experience delivering workloads on AWS, including services such as Lambda, S3, IAM, Bedrock or SageMaker
- Experience with Git and CI/CD tools
- Strong problem-solving skills and good written and verbal communication in English.

Desirable

- Experience with agentic patterns, orchestration and MCP in production
- Experience with GenAI platforms such as Amazon Bedrock, OpenAI or Anthropic Claude
- Familiarity with GenAI observability tools such as Langfuse or MLflow
- Infrastructure as code experience (AWS CDK or Terraform)
- AWS certifications
