About Us

At Relationships Australia Queensland (RAQ), we are proud to be Queensland’s leading provider of relationship and family wellbeing services. Our purpose is to provide individuals and families with the tools and support they need to build happier, healthier lives. Through education, counselling, and community programs, we help people develop the skills and resilience to navigate life’s challenges.

Our work promotes care and safety, embracing diversity to foster strong and connected communities. We are committed to expanding our expertise and leading conversations about relationships, mental health, and social connection.

By joining Relationships Australia Queensland, you can be part of a dedicated team making a positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities.

About the role

We are looking for a passionate and experienced practitioner who is committed to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families to build safer, healthier relationships.

In this role, you’ll work alongside individuals who use violence to support them on their journey towards healing, accountability and positive change. Through culturally safe, trauma-aware and healing-focused approaches, you’ll help participants understand the impact of their behaviour, strengthen their cultural identity and wellbeing, and develop more respectful ways of relating to others.

Your work will extend beyond individual support, with opportunities to facilitate group programs and healing circles, deliver community education, and build strong relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and local service providers. By working collaboratively, you’ll help strengthen access to culturally responsive support and contribute to meaningful, lasting change.

At the heart of this role is a shared commitment to strengthening the safety and wellbeing of women, children, men and families, and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to thrive.

We are committed to building a culturally safe and welcoming workplace that values the knowledge, strengths, and lived experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We strongly encourage applications from First Nations candidates, as your unique perspectives are vital to the success of this program and to ensuring it meets the needs of the community it serves.

Additionally, you will:

- Deliver culturally safe, trauma-aware and person-centred therapeutic interventions that promote accountability,

healing and positive behaviour change.
- Facilitate individual counselling, therapeutic case management, group programs and healing circles.
- Support participants to recognise the impacts of violence on partners, children, families and the wider community, and develop respectful relationship skills.
- Undertake risk assessments and safety planning, prioritising the safety and wellbeing of victim-survivors, children and families.
- Provide culturally appropriate referrals and collaborate with specialist DFV, social and emotional wellbeing, mental health, alcohol and other drug, legal and parenting services.
- Deliver community education and awareness activities that promote the prevention of domestic and family violence and support protected, healthy relationships.
- Build solid partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, community organisations and service providers to strengthen culturally responsive, coordinated support.
- Maintain accurate client records, case notes, risk documentation and service data in accordance with organisational requirements.
- Participate in professional supervision, reflective practice and ongoing development to maintain high standards of service delivery.

About you

You are a compassionate, culturally responsive practitioner with a strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, cultures and lived experiences. You can build trusting relationships and engage meaningfully with community, recognising the importance of cultural identity, connection and community-led approaches. You understand the complexities of domestic and family violence and can balance a healing-focused approach with clear expectations around accountability and safety, supporting individuals to take responsibility for their behaviour and build healthier relationships.

Additionally, you have:

- Demonstrated experience supporting individuals and families affected by domestic and family violence.
- Experience in risk assessment, safety planning and responding to complex client needs.

- The ability to work therapeutically with people who use violence, while maintaining a strong focus on the safety and wellbeing of victim-survivors and children.
- Knowledge of relevant domestic and family violence legislation, confidentiality requirements and professional obligations.
- Strong communication, relationship-building and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively with community stakeholders and multidisciplinary services.
