Leo Cussen Centre for Law
Melbourne
Leo Cussen Centre for Law is a leading national provider of professional legal training, supporting students, lawyers and professionals at every stage of their career.
For more than fifty years, Leo Cussen has supported generations of lawyers and professionals to continue developing throughout their careers. Today, Leo Cussen continues to help shape the future of legal education, equipping lawyers with the capability, knowledge and adaptability to succeed in a changing profession
We work closely with the profession to ensure our graduates are workplace-ready and supported by high-quality professional placement opportunities.
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Professional Placement Advisor to lead the sourcing, coordination and delivery of our Professional Placement Program.
Based in Melbourne, this full time role works closely with Practical Legal Training (PLT) graduates, placement providers, supervising lawyers and colleagues across Leo Cussen to source, match and support high-quality professional placements across Australia.
Rather than recruiting candidates into jobs, you’ll connect graduates with suitable professional placement providers and support both parties throughout the placement journey.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with experience in recruitment, talent acquisition, graduate programs, account management, employer engagement or candidate coordination who enjoys building relationships and matching people with opportunities.
About the role
Reporting to the Head of Industry Engagement and Partnerships, you will:
- proactively source professional placement opportunities across Australia
- develop sustainable relationships with law firms and other legal organisations
- understand graduate interests and placement-provider requirements
- manage placement sourcing, approval, matching and allocation processes
- provide guidance and support to graduates and placement supervisors before, during and after placements
- monitor placement quality, compliance and feedback
- deliver placement briefings and maintain clear information for graduates and providers
- maintain accurate graduate, placement and stakeholder records
- contribute to reporting and the ongoing review and improvement of the placement program
- provide supervision and support to staff involved in placement delivery
- represent Leo Cussen at relevant legal, university, networking and careers events.
About you
You will bring relevant experience in areas such as recruitment, talent acquisition, graduate programs, account management, employer engagement, student placements, careers services, legal practice or another relationship-based coordination role.
You’ll also be a confident relationship builder with strong sourcing, organisational and communication skills, capable of managing multiple placements, stakeholders and competing priorities with accuracy and follow-through.
Experience with placements, internships, work-integrated learning or student-to-employer matching will be highly regarded, as will knowledge of the legal profession or legal recruitment.
Essential qualifications and experience
To be successful in this role, you will have one of the following:
- A relevant tertiary qualification with substantial subsequent relevant professional experience; or
- Extensive relevant experience and demonstrated expertise in program administration, stakeholder engagement, recruitment, placement coordination or a related field; or
- An equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
Desirable qualifications and experience
The following would also be highly regarded:
- A qualification in law, education, careers development, human resources, recruitment, business, project management or a related discipline
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE).
Why join us?
At Leo Cussen, you’ll be part of a purpose-driven organisation that values professionalism, respect, integrity and support. We offer flexible work arrangements, a strong learning culture and the opportunity to contribute to the next generation of lawyers.
What we offer:
- Flexible work arrangements and hybrid working
- Up to three additional paid leave days between Christmas and New Year
- 16% superannuation after 12 months
- Strong professional development and learning culture
- Employee Assistance and wellbeing programs
This role is ideally suited to Victorian-based candidates within commuting distance of our Melbourne CBD head office. We offer a hybrid work arrangement, with at least five (5) days onsite per fortnight.
Interested?
Please apply with your current resume and a covering letter addressing the requirements above, your motivation for joining Leo Cussen and the strengths you would bring to the role.
Applicants must have valid Australian work rights. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
Applications from recruitment agencies will not be considered.
