About the roleTo oversee and manage the rating functions of the Shire in accordance with relevant legislation, ensuring timely, accurate and productive billing, collection, and reconciliation of rates and charges.
The role also provides support to Customer Service staff and contributes to financial reporting and strategic revenue forecasting.Key responsibilitiesManage the end-to-end rating cycle including property database maintenance, rate modelling, billing, pensioner/senior concessions, instalment & direct debit plansEnsure compliance with the Local Government Act ****, Valuation of Land Act ****, and relevant regulationsPrepare and issue interim rates, final notices, instalments and reminder noticesLiaise with Landgate, the Office of State Revenue, and other relevant agencies regarding valuations, ownership changes and pensioner/senior concessionsAdminister rates recovery processes, including liaison with debt recovery agents,



and recommend legal action where necessaryPerform reconciliations of the rates ledger to the general ledgerContribute to budget preparation, including rate revenue estimates and modelling of rate increasesRespond to complex customer enquiries relating to rates and valuationsMaintain accurate and up-to-date records in the property/rating databaseIdentify opportunities for process efficiencies and service improvementsAbout youDemonstrated experience in local government rates, property and finance functionsKnowledge of Local Government Rating principles and practicesKnowledge and experience in Local Government legislation and relevant regulationsKnowledge of rating legislation and statutory requirements in WAHigh-level skills in using local government financial software systemsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesHighly developed interpersonal skillsExcellent interpersonal and customer service skillsStrong written communication and report writing skillsStrong Microsoft Excel skills
