Manager Economic Development and Tourism
Southern Grampians Shire Council | Hamilton, Victoria
Help shape the next chapter for the Southern Grampians economy
Southern Grampians is ready to grow. We have serviced industrial land ready for development, a strong agricultural base looking to diversify, design for a major streetscape project under way, and Councillors who want progress and are firmly behind this recent role.
We’re looking for a high-energy leader with a business mindset to take on a newly created position at the centre of that growth.
The role
You’ll lead Council’s economic development and tourism functions. You will:
- Develop and then lead delivery of new Economic Development and Visitor Economy Strategies
- Produce a compelling investment prospectus that tells prospective businesses why Southern Grampians is the place to locate and grow
- Attract new industry and support the diversification of our agricultural sector
- Build proactive relationships with small businesses, so they’re informed and supported
- Strengthen partnerships with Regional Development Victoria, Grampians Tourism, Gunditj Mirring and our key employers across manufacturing, health, education, services and industry
- Identify and secure external funding, drawing on your knowledge of government and grant programs
- Lift the visibility of our visitor information centres in Hamilton and Dunkeld
- Lead and energise a small,
capable team and our valued volunteers
- Provide trusted advice to the CEO, Director and Councillors
About you
You are a natural connector who is happiest out of the office, talking with business owners, operators and community members. You bring:
- A commercial, results-focused mindset, with experience attracting investment, supporting business growth or delivering economic outcomes
- Charisma, energy and the credibility to build relationships quickly at every level
- Strategic capability, with the ability to turn a strategy into action
- Knowledge of government, funding programs and how to navigate them
- An understanding of regional communities and what makes them tick
- Leadership skills that lift a team’s energy and engagement
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience
Local government experience is valued, but we’re equally keen to hear from candidates in the private sector, state government, regional development or tourism bodies.
Why join us
- A rare chance to create a role and shape its direction
- Strong support from Councillors and executive leadership
- A region with real opportunity, from industrial land to agriculture to world-class tourism
