Are you an experienced Senior Civil or Remedial Engineer ready to step into a high-impact leadership role and build an engineering function from the ground up? If you have the technical authority, Chartered status, and drive to shape major infrastructure projects across Sydney and New South Wales, this is your opportunity to establish yourself as a key industry leader.
On behalf of our client, Rio Management is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead, scale, and elevate a specialist civil infrastructure firm based out of Lane Cove, Sydney. The business specialises in advanced structural remediation, non-demolition injection systems, chemical grouting, and concrete repair across live rail, tunnel, and major civil infrastructure assets. In this hybrid leadership and technical role, you will establish in-house engineering sign-off frameworks, mentor junior engineers, and drive technical methodology across active projects. Working closely with company Directors, you will serve as the technical face of the business—advocating advanced structural repair solutions directly to Tier 1 joint ventures, Transport for NSW (TfNSW), and asset owners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish & Improve the Engineering Function: Design, build, and oversee engineering frameworks, Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures, and technical sign-off processes from the ground up.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Direct and oversee the output of internal civil engineers while providing technical guidance and upskilling to site technicians to ensure high-quality project delivery.
- Technical Proposal & Methodology Design: Develop robust methodologies,
prepare method statements, review site inspection reports, and author technical proposals for civil and rail infrastructure tenders.
- Technical Sign-off & Quality Governance: Author remedial procedures and execute formal engineering sign-offs under Engineers Australia credentials, bringing design certification capabilities fully in-house.
- Hands-on Site Mastery: Maintain an active site presence during initial onboarding (including night shifts and weekend track possessions on live tunnel and rail infrastructure) to master proprietary systems, materials, and methods without performing technician duties.
- Industry Leadership & Advocacy: Represent the business at industry events, author technical articles, and present lectures to build market authority and educate clients.
- Client & Designer Advocacy: Engage directly with Tier 1 joint venture designers, TfNSW representatives, and Sydney Trains / Metro engineers to advocate for and gain approval of specialised materials and non-demolition injection systems.
- Future Innovation: Collaborate with executive leadership on developing next-generation products, concrete mix designs, chemical formulations, and mechanical or robotic capabilities.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Education & Credentials: Bachelor of Civil Engineering with mandatory Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or National Engineering Register (NER) status with Engineers Australia (or immediate eligibility to finalise Chartership).
- Experience Level: Approximately 15 years of industry experience across structural assessment, diagnostic engineering, structural investigation, durability/materials engineering, or tunnel/rail infrastructure.
- Communication & Advocacy: Native or near-native English fluency with exceptional public speaking and technical writing capabilities suitable for published articles, client advocacy, and industry presentations.
- Rail & Site Compliance: Valid NSW Driver’s Licence, Construction Induction (White Card), and willingness/ability to hold Rail Industry Worker (RIW), High Risk Work (EWP), and Working at Heights / Confined Space certifications.
- Operational Flexibility: Willingness to attend live rail tunnel sites during scheduled night shifts and weekend possessions as required by major infrastructure schedules.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office 365, Google Workspace, and AutoCAD.
- Work Rights & Location: Full unrestricted Australian working rights (Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident) and currently residing in the Greater Sydney area.
Package & Offer: $140,000 – $160,000 Base Salary + Superannuation (Full time Employee) depending on experience, OR Competitive Contractor Equivalent Rate, with long-term leadership progression as the business expands.
