Our client is a large public-sector organisation undertaking a significant digital transformation initiative, requiring an experienced Functional Tester to support testing activities across business applications, interfaces and integrated systems.
This role will contribute to the quality, stability and reliability of digital solutions through structured test planning, execution, defect management and reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with business analysts, developers, solution architects and other stakeholders to ensure solutions meet business requirements and are ready for release.

Role Description:
The Functional Tester will be responsible for planning, designing, executing and documenting testing activities across a range of applications and integrated technology solutions.
Working collaboratively with technical and business stakeholders, the role will develop test cases, prepare test data, validate system functionality, identify defects and provide clear reporting on testing progress and outcomes.
The role requires strong experience in functional and integration testing, including REST APIs and interfaces between systems. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in an Agile delivery environment, managing competing priorities and ensuring testing activities align with business requirements and delivery milestones.

Responsibilities include:

- Plan, design, execute and document functional testing activities across applications and integrated systems
- Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, test scripts and test data aligned to business requirements
- Conduct functional, system integration, regression and other relevant testing activities
- Support user acceptance testing (UAT), including test preparation, execution and defect resolution
- Test REST APIs, web services, interfaces and data exchanges between systems
- Validate application functionality, system integrations and end-to-end business processes
- Identify, document, track and retest defects, working closely with developers and delivery teams to support resolution
- Maintain requirements traceability between business requirements, test scenarios, test cases and outcomes




- Prepare test execution reports, defect summaries and quality status updates for stakeholders
- Use test management and defect tracking tools to manage testing activities and provide visibility of progress
- Collaborate with business analysts, developers, solution architects, vendors and business users to clarify requirements and resolve issues
- Validate data, reports, business outputs and system-generated documents where required
- Support testing across web applications, APIs, reporting solutions and connected systems
- Contribute to test strategies, test plans, test completion reports and release readiness assessments
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, planning sessions and defect triage meetings
- Ensure testing activities are completed within agreed timelines and meet required quality standards
- Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, test processes and overall quality assurance practices

Skills and Experience

- Minimum 5 years' experience in functional testing, system integration testing, regression testing and UAT within complex IT environments
- Minimum 5 years' experience testing REST APIs, web services and system integrations
- Demonstrated ability to develop test plans, test cases, test scripts and test data from business and technical requirements
- Experience testing web applications, interfaces and end-to-end business processes
- Strong defect management skills, including defect identification, documentation, prioritisation, retesting and closure
- Experience maintaining requirements traceability and preparing transparent testing reports
- Familiarity with test management tools such as Azure DevOps Test Plans, Jira, Zephyr or HP ALM
- Experience with API testing tools such as Postman or SoapUI




- Exposure to automation and performance testing tools such as Selenium or JMeter is advantageous
- Experience testing enterprise applications, CRM or ERP platforms, .NET-based solutions or cloud-hosted environments
- Experience validating reporting, data outputs, business intelligence solutions or system-generated documents
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a methodical approach to testing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments and supporting iterative releases
- ISTQB Foundation certification or an equivalent testing qualification
- Experience working in government, public sector or large-scale digital transformation programs is highly desirable
