Purpose of the role:
The VB6 Developer will be responsible for updates, modification, enhancement, support, testing, and modernisation of legacy enterprise applications developed in Microsoft Visual Basic 6 (VB6) and associated technologies.
This includes analysing existing application functionality, implementing enhancements, resolving defects, supporting system integrations, and ensuring business-critical applications continue to operate effectively while supporting broader transformation and modernisation initiatives.
The role will work closely with business analysts, solution architects, testers, and stakeholders to understand business requirements, maintain existing applications, and contribute to migration and modernisation activities where required.
The role will play a key part in supporting legacy environments while facilitating transition to contemporary technology platforms as part of the modernising project.

Key Accountabilities:

- Apply SDLC principles to the analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and support of enterprise applications and solutions.
- Develop, maintain, and support full-stack applications using the VB6 and Microsoft .NET framework.
- Demonstrated experience with Windows Forms (WinForms) application development, including user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design and optimisation.
- Design, develop, and optimise SQL Server databases, stored procedures, views, functions, SSIS package, and data access components to support business applications.
- Reporting to the Development Manager (Project Manager) or Technical Lead, build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including business representatives, architects, testers, vendors, and project teams.




- Produce and maintain technical documentation including solution designs, technical specifications, integration designs, support documentation, and deployment guides.
- Work closely with business analysts, solution architects, testers, and stakeholders to analyse requirements and deliver high-quality technical solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Perform unit testing, integration testing, code reviews, troubleshooting, defect remediation, and performance optimisation throughout the application lifecycle.
- Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines, automated deployments, and DevOps practices using tools such as Azure DevOps and Git.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by enhancing development processes, coding standards, tools, frameworks, and delivery methodologies across the program.
- Provide ongoing application support, maintenance, enhancements, and technical advice to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of business-critical systems.

Essential requirements:

- Skills: VB6, .NET, SQL Server, T-SQL, SSIS, ETL, Azure, Azure DevOps, Git, CI/CD, Agile, Thick Client UI/UX
- 5+ years of experience in VB6 and .NET development.
- Developed enterprise applications using VB6, .NET, and SQL Server.
- Built SSIS packages for large-scale data migration and integration projects.
- Optimised database performance, reducing query execution times significantly.
- Worked in Agile teams delivering high-quality software solutions.
