Business Development Manager – Container Transport & Warehousing
- Laverton North
- Full time
This isn't a seat in a sales team. You'll be building one together.
So far our growth has come from the owners selling, and from customers who stay because we deliver. You'll be our first dedicated Business Development Manager. The accounts you win, the way you win them and what we learn from customers will shape how Core Logistics sells from here.
Why this role is different
You'll be heard. You'll work directly with the Managing Director on bigger deals. Pricing decisions take a conversation, not a committee.
You're selling something that's easy to say yes to. We don't run a forwarding arm, so forwarders can bring us their work without worrying we'll take their customers. Wharf to yard, devan, store and deliver from one provider is a harder offer to replace than a transport-only carrier.
You'll help shape the warehousing offer. Warehousing is growing, and you'll bring back what customers need and what they'll pay for.
Operations will deliver what you sell. We have our own fleet of side loaders, skels and A-doubles. The person who answers the phone can change the plan for a customer.
Your results will show. Commission on new business is uncapped. In a family-owned business, the people who decide on your future can see what you've won.
What success looks like
First 90 days: you know our offer and our pricing, you've built a pipeline of Melbourne forwarders,
and your first meetings are booked and happening.
First 6 months: you've won 3–4 new accounts and handed them smoothly to operations. You'll also know which importer and exporter segments are worth chasing.
How you'll get there
Prospect daily by phone, email, LinkedIn, referrals and industry events
Run first meetings that uncover real service problems, not just price
Build proposals with management, close the deal, then stay close through the first 90 days
Keep HubSpot current so we can all see what's working
You’ll likely have
2+ years selling transport, logistics or 3PL in Melbourne, with a record of winning new accounts, not just managing existing ones
Knowledge and understanding of how to pain-sell
Ideally, a network across forwarders, customs brokers or importers
Comfort picking up the phone and walking into a room
A current driver's licence
About us: For more than 10 years we've moved import and export containers between Melbourne's terminals and our customers' sites. From our Laverton North yard we also offer devanning, storage and warehousing. We're family-owned, growing, and know our customers by name.transport.
Competitive base salary plus super
Uncapped commission on new business you bring in
Phone and laptop
Real backing: the owners are in the room on big deals, and operations will deliver what you sell
A growing business where your results are visible and rewarded
