Systems Engineer - Rail HVAC & Thermal Systems

We’re currently recruiting for a Systems Engineer to join a global engineering and manufacturing organisation specialising in rail vehicle HVAC and battery thermal management systems.

This is a full time, permanent position based in Western Sydney. The role combines hands‑on engineering design, testing and technical problem‑solving, with a primary focus on HVAC systems and opportunities to work with Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS).

Roles and Responsibilities

- Lead engineering design activities from initial concept and requirements through to production release.
- Design and develop HVAC, thermal/fluid and Battery Thermal Management Systems.
- Investigate technical issues through hands‑on troubleshooting, testing and root cause analysis.
- Develop engineering specifications, requirements, test plans and validation activities while supporting technical risk management.
- Work across engineering, manufacturing and project teams while developing solutions and supporting customer technical requirements.

Skills and Requirements:

- Tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Refrigeration Engineering, Thermal/Fluid Engineering or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated engineering experience in HVAC systems, preferably involving equipment design, product development or manufacturing.
- Practical engineering design experience, with knowledge of airflow, heat transfer, refrigeration principles, HVAC components and control systems.
- Hands‑on experience in system testing, validation, troubleshooting, fault investigation and root cause analysis.
- Understanding of programming, software and control systems, with experience in PLC programming, C or C++ would be advantageous.
- Experience with Battery Thermal Management Systems (BTMS) would be highly regarded but is not essential.
