Job Description
About the role
NetStrategy works exclusively in K–12 education. We have supported over 400 schools across Australia for more than 40 years. ICT is not a sideline for us — it is the business. The people we hire are responsible for the technology that keeps schools running.
This ICT Support role sits at the centre of that work. You will be based on‑site at a leading independent school, embedded in the day‑to‑day technology operations of the school. You will work alongside experienced engineers and service delivery professionals, contributing to real infrastructure across servers, networks, cloud platforms, and end‑user environments.
This is an entry‑to‑junior role. We hire on aptitude and attitude as much as experience. If you are early in your career and serious about growing into a systems and infrastructure specialist, this is a structured path to do that.
What you’ll be doing
- Providing day‑to‑day ICT support across end‑user computing, connectivity, and core infrastructure
- Troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues — working through problems methodically and escalating when needed
- Contributing to infrastructure projects alongside senior engineers
- Work within a team to support broad and varied systems from leading vendors.
- Maintaining clear, timely communication with school staff and stakeholders when issues arise
- Keeping technical documentation accurate and up to date
Who we’re looking for
- You may be finishing a degree or certification, or you may have one to three years of hands‑on experience. What matters more than credentials is how you approach the work.
- You work through problems logically and know when to ask for help
- You communicate clearly with people who aren’t technical — and you don’t make them feel like they should be
- You follow through. If you say you’ll do something, you do it
- You’re curious about technology and take it on yourself to stay current
- You take the work seriously but don’t need to be chased to do it well
Skills and Experience
- Foundational knowledge of networking, server environments, and end‑user computing
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and cloud‑based infrastructure
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues methodically
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Full Australian work rights
Advantageous
- Experience with VMware, Hyper‑V, or Azure environments
- Familiarity with ITSM tools or ticketing systems (ConnectWise is a plus)
- Exposure to Extreme Networks, HPE Aruba, Juniper MIST, or similar switching/Wi‑Fi platforms
- Experience with backup technologies (Veeam, Barracuda)
- MacOS and JAMF experience
- CCNA, JNCP, ACMP or equivalent certification
- Any prior experience in or with a school environment
Why NetStrategy?
We work in one sector. That means the context you build here is deep rather than scattered. You will understand schools — their operations, their rhythms, their risk profile — in a way that generalist IT providers never do.
NetStrategy invests in the development of its technical staff. This role has a clear path forward, and we support people who want to move along it.
Our Values
- Own It
- Go Further
- Lift Others
- Stay Grounded
Note: NetStrategy is not in a position to offer visa sponsorship. Applications open to those with full Australian Work Rights. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. No recruiters please.
NetStrategy works exclusively in K–12 education. We have supported over 400 schools across Australia for more than 40 years. ICT is not a sideline for us, it is the business. The people we hire are responsible for the technology that keeps schools running. This role is built for someone who wants more than a standard helpdesk position and is ready to prove it.
Day to day, you will be delivering ICT support across a portfolio of school clients troubleshooting, supporting infrastructure, and working within a structured service delivery team. At the same time, you will be applying and developing real DevOps capability: automation, pipelines,
and cloud infrastructure work that sits alongside the support function rather than replacing it.
The balance will shift over time. The role starts support‑heavy and grows toward DevOps as your confidence and capability build. What you bring on day one is a solid technical foundation and the curiosity to go further. What you build from there is up to you.
What you’ll be doing
The role has two connected parts:
ICT support and infrastructure
- Providing day‑to‑day ICT support across end‑user computing, connectivity, and core infrastructure for school clients
- Troubleshooting hardware, software, and network issues — working through problems methodically and escalating when needed
- Supporting server environments, identity management, and cloud‑based infrastructure
- Contributing to infrastructure projects alongside senior engineers
- Maintaining clear, timely communication with clients and internal stakeholders when issues arise
- Keeping technical documentation accurate and up to date
DevOps and automation
The DevOps component of this role is a growth layer, not a day‑one expectation. What we are looking for is genuine curiosity, some practical exposure, and the discipline to develop these skills in a structured commercial setting. As you build confidence in the support foundation, you will take on progressively more DevOps work — with direction and support from the team.
Over time that work will include:
- Building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and contributing to Infrastructure as Code practices
- Writing scripts to automate routine provisioning, system updates, and repetitive operational tasks
- Working with workflow automation tools such as Power Automate, Rewst, and n8n to turn manual processes into automated ones
- Getting hands‑on with container technologies such as Docker — building, modifying, and troubleshooting containerised workloads
- Contributing to monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions for client infrastructure
- Applying AI coding tools to build proof‑of‑concepts and prototypes that can be matured into production‑ready tools
- Producing clear technical documentation and runbooks for handover and ongoing support
You do not need to have done all of this commercially. What matters is that you have touched some of it — through study, labs, or personal projects — and you want to develop it further in a real environment.
Who we’re looking for
You have been working in hands‑on ICT support or systems administration for at least a year or two. You are comfortable troubleshooting infrastructure issues independently, managing a ticket queue under pressure, and working directly with clients or end users who are not technical. That foundation is not negotiable.
What makes this role different is the DevOps layer. We are not looking for someone who has done it all commercially. We are looking for someone who has the support instincts already built and is actively developing their DevOps capability – through study, labs, personal projects, or early commercial exposure. You understand why automation matters and you are already moving in that direction.
- You have real, hands‑on experience supporting infrastructure and end‑user environments — not just observing or shadowing
- You are familiar with the Microsoft stack that schools run on — M365, Azure AD or Entra ID, Intune — and you have administered it, not just used it
- You work through problems logically, document what you find, and know when to escape
- You communicate clearly with people who are not technical — and you do not make them feel like they should be
- You are actively building DevOps skills — scripting, automation, cloud infrastructure, or pipeline work — and you can point to something real you have done, even if it is outside of a commercial setting
- You follow through. If you say you will do something, you do it
- You take the work seriously but do not need to be chased to do it well
Skills and Experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification in computer science, information technology, or software engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Foundational knowledge of networking,
server environments, and end‑user computing
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and cloud‑based infrastructure, particularly Azure
- Basic scripting exposure (eg PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar)
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues methodically
- Clear written and verbal communication
- Full Australian work rights
Advantageous
- Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ‑900) or equivalent cloud certification
- Exposure to GitHub or similar version control tools
- Exposure to CI/CD tooling or Infrastructure as Code through study, labs, or personal projects
- Experience with VMware, Hyper‑V, or Azure virtualisation environments
- Familiarity with ITSM tools or ticketing systems (ConnectWise is a plus)
- SNMP configuration and network monitoring platforms such as Zabbix
- Working with APIs, and an awareness of emerging tooling such as Model Context Protocol (MCP)
- Experience in a managed services or multi‑client setting (including internships or placements)
- ITIL Foundation — useful context for how technology services are managed and delivered
- Any prior experience in or with a school environment
Why NetStrategy?
We work in one sector. That means the context you build here is deep rather than scattered. You will understand schools — their operations, their rhythms, their risk profile — in a way that generalist IT providers never do.
Across our school client base you will encounter different infrastructure configurations, different support challenges, and different automation problems — the kind of variety that accelerates a technical career faster than a single‑site role ever could.
This role has a clear path forward for the right person. The support foundation builds the practical instincts. The DevOps layer builds the capability that takes you further.
