About My Migration Lawyers (MML)
My Migration Lawyers is a national migration law firm growing rapidly, with strong demand for our services and new clients coming on board every day. Our practice is busy, our team is expanding and there is real momentum behind what we are building.
Fully digital and fast-paced, we help people build their lives in Australia, stay with the people they love and fight for their future when their right to remain is at risk. Our work spans partner visas, protection visas, visa refusals and cancellations, Administrative Review Tribunal matters and other complex migration matters.
Urgent matters are a regular part of our practice. We often need to assess a situation, give clear advice and move quickly to prepare and lodge applications within tight deadlines. We make decisions, take ownership and keep matters moving, with the care and accuracy our clients rely on.
We embrace technology, including AI, to work smarter and keep pace with our growth. You do not need to be an AI expert, but you must be willing to learn, use AI tools in your day-to-day work and critically check their output. We value curiosity, adaptability and initiative, alongside confidentiality, accuracy and professional judgement.
For people who enjoy a busy environment, take initiative and want to help build a growing firm, there is plenty of opportunity to make an impact at My Migration Lawyers.
Positions Available
Senior Immigration Lawyers
Take a leading role in complex and urgent migration matters, with the autonomy to exercise your judgement and help shape a rapidly growing practice.
These roles suit experienced immigration lawyers who can provide clear, strategic advice, manage matters independently and act decisively under pressure. You will take responsibility for progressing cases, maintaining high standards and supporting the development of junior lawyers.
You must have at least three years of experience practising Australian migration law and hold an unrestricted Australian practising certificate. Strong experience in partner visas, protection visas, visa refusals and cancellations, or Administrative Review Tribunal matters will be highly regarded.
We are looking for lawyers who combine technical depth with practical judgement, communicate confidently with clients and take ownership from initial advice through to the outcome.
Junior Immigration Lawyers
Build your migration law career in a busy,
growing practice where you will gain hands-on experience and learn from experienced senior lawyers.
You must have at least six months of practical experience in Australian migration law, including hands-on experience using ImmiAccount to prepare and lodge visa applications. You will need an existing understanding of migration processes and the ability to contribute from the outset.
You will receive ongoing supervision, mentoring and structured professional development to build on that foundation, strengthen your technical skills and take on greater responsibility across a broad range of matters, including complex cases and urgent applications.
We are looking for people who ask thoughtful questions, act on feedback and take ownership of their work. You will need strong attention to detail, clear communication and the ability to keep matters moving in a fast-paced environment.
The Roles
You will work directly with clients and take an active role in progressing matters, from initial assessment and advice through to preparation, lodgement and ongoing representation. Your responsibilities and level of autonomy will reflect your experience, with junior lawyers working under supervision and senior lawyers independently managing complex matters.
Client Consultations and Advice
- Conduct consultations via Zoom, understand each client’s circumstances and identify the legal issues requiring attention.
- Assess eligibility, legal merit, available pathways and the evidence needed to support a matter.
- Provide clear, practical advice about options, risks, prospects and next steps.
- Identify issues such as previous refusals, cancellations, character concerns, credibility issues and gaps in evidence.
- Exercise sound judgement about whether a matter has sufficient merit to proceed and communicate that advice honestly and clearly.
Matter Preparation and Management
- Prepare and lodge visa applications through ImmiAccount, including supporting submissions, statements and evidence.
- Work across partner visas, protection visas, refusals, cancellations, ART proceedings and other complex migration matters.
- Identify urgent issues,
prioritise competing deadlines and take timely action to progress matters.
- Review documents critically, identify inconsistencies and obtain the information needed to address them.
- Prepare costs agreements, engagement documents and client correspondence.
- Keep clients informed, respond promptly and maintain accurate, up-to-date file records.
- Research legislation, policy and case law, and apply that research to practical advice and submissions.
Teamwork, Technology and Skilled Standards
- Work closely with colleagues in a fully remote practice, communicate clearly and follow through on agreed actions.
- Use the firm’s systems and AI tools effectively, checking outputs and taking responsibility for the accuracy and quality of your work.
- Contribute to precedents, internal resources and improvements to the way we work.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with professional obligations, firm procedures and service standards.
Additional Responsibilities for Senior Lawyers
- Lead complex and urgent matters, develop legal strategies and make sound decisions independently.
- Review applications, submissions and advice prepared by junior lawyers and paralegals, providing clear, constructive feedback.
- Supervise and mentor junior team members, helping them strengthen their legal reasoning, drafting and matter management.
- Provide guidance on difficult legal issues and support colleagues when urgent matters require a coordinated response.
- Contribute to internal training, technical development and consistent standards of legal work across the firm.
About You
To be considered, you must:
- Be admitted as an Australian lawyer and hold a current Australian practising certificate in NSW.
- Have the right to work in Australia.
- Demonstrate strong legal analysis, drafting and client communication skills.
- Be organised, reliable and able to manage competing deadlines in a fully remote practice.
- Exercise sound professional judgement, recognise when to seek guidance and act promptly when issues arise.
- Be willing to use AI and other digital tools, critically check their output and take responsibility for your work.
You should also meet the experience requirements for the junior or senior position outlined above.
