About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Tailor / Machinist / Alteration Tailor / Customer Service Specialist to join our team at our Preston Lower location. This is a part-time position offering flexibility while contributing to the smooth running of our alterations business.

In this multifaceted role, you will combine your tailoring expertise with excellent customer service, ensuring every garment meets our quality standards and every customer receives qualified, friendly and personalised service.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform accurate garment alterations, including hemming, seam adjustments, zipper replacements and other tailoring modifications.

- Operate industrial and domestic sewing machines with precision and efficiency.

- Assess garments and identify required alterations or repairs.

- Provide professional advice to customers on alteration options and feasibility.

- Take accurate measurements and record customer requirements.

- Maintain detailed records of customer orders and alteration specifications.

- Process customer payments and handle cash and card transactions.

- Greet customers professionally and respond to inquiries.

- Complete alterations within agreed timeframes and coordinate customer collections.

- Maintain a clean, organised and safe work workplace.





- Quality-check completed garments to ensure they meet Alter It Pty Ltd's standards and customer expectations.

What We're Looking For

- Proven experience as a tailor, machinist or alteration specialist, preferably in a customer-facing alterations business.

- Proficiency in operating industrial sewing machines and performing hand-sewing techniques.

- Strong knowledge of garment construction, fabric types and appropriate alteration methods.

- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.

- Friendly, professional customer service and transparent communication skills.

- Ability to take accurate measurements and follow customer specifications.

- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple orders simultaneously.

- Reliability and punctuality, with a focus on meeting customer deadlines.

- Basic mathematical skills for calculating alteration costs.

- Willingness to learn and follow Alter It Pty Ltd's business processes and quality standards.

- Previous retail or customer service experience is desirable.
