About the role
The Mining Engineer / Site Scheduler is the on site owner of mine design and scheduling for the Fossey underground, and the keeper of the integrated site production schedule. The role turns the mine plan into designs, drill and blast plans and schedules that crews can execute safely, and it connects underground ore to crushing, haulage and shipping so that the whole site works to one plan. It gives the Underground Manager dedicated engineering support through the restart and ramp up, and it gives the site leadership team a single, reliable view of plan, actual and forecast.
Key responsibilities
- Work in line with the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (Tas), the Mines Work Health and Safety (Supplementary Requirements) Act 2012 (Tas), the associated regulations and the site Safety and Health Management System
- Make sure every design and schedule honours the site's geotechnical, ventilation, egress and explosives controls
- Take part in risk assessments, change management and incident investigations for mining activities, and close out assigned actions on time
- Keep mine plans current and to the statutory standard, working with the contract surveyor
- Produce development and stope designs for the Fossey underground in the site mine planning software (Deswik), within the approved mine plan and geotechnical parameters
- Prepare drill and blast designs for development rounds and production rings, including charge plans and firing sequences, and review results with the shotfirers
- Translate the geotechnical consultants' recommendations into ground support designs and standards on the plans issued to crews
- Own the short and medium term schedule for the underground,
and keep each planning horizon consistent with the one above it
- Maintain the one schedule the site works to, linking underground ore to the run of mine pad, crushing campaigns, haulage to Burnie, port stocks and shipping
- Produce the daily and weekly underground production reports and the month end physicals, on time and from a single source of data
About you
- Degree in Mining Engineering, or an equivalent qualification
- At least three years' experience in underground metalliferous mining, including mine design and short term scheduling
- Hands on drill and blast design experience for development and production
- Proficiency in Deswik (CAD and Sched), or strong capability in a comparable mine planning package and readiness to convert
- Sound working knowledge of underground ventilation and ground control principles
- Robust data and spreadsheet skills, with a track record of schedules and reports that reconcile
- Clear written and verbal communication with crews, supervisors and managers
- Current driver's licence and the right to work in Australia
- Ability to pass a pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening, and to take part in site health monitoring
About us
Celestial Pacific Services Pty Ltd (ABN 29 695 286 189), a Celestial Pacific Group company, operates Hellyer Mine. Hellyer is in restart, with three production streams running together: a dredge fed tailings flotation circuit producing concentrate; polymetallic ore exported by truck and ship through the Port of Burnie; and underground mining at Fossey, where direct shipping ore is mined, crushed and trucked to Burnie. Underground mining is carried out by two owner crews on day shift.
