About Catalyst Academics

Catalyst Academics creates high-quality, self-paced online courses for South Australian Year 11 and 12 students, with plans to expand into Years 7–10.

Our team develops clear, engaging Mathematics and Science resources, including instructional videos, worked examples, worksheets, written solutions and exam preparation materials. We are looking for a reliable, detail-oriented editor and content creator to help expand our resources and maintain a high standard of accuracy and clarity.

About the Role

This role combines educational video editing and mathematics question writing. You will edit screen-recorded lessons using Wondershare Filmora, prepare introductory and summary slides, and develop questions for worksheets and application videos.

Advanced visual effects and complex transitions are not required. The emphasis is on subject accuracy, precision, consistency and clear explanations.

Work will be completed on-site at our Mawson Lakes office, using our desktop setup and working directly with the team to review and finalise resources. Worksheet layout and formatting will be handled separately, allowing you to focus on the questions and solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Video editing and quality assurance

- Edit raw recordings into clear, cohesive educational videos.
- Identify and flag mathematical or scientific errors, including calculation mistakes, typos, incorrect expressions and unclear explanations.
- Clearly communicate which segments require re-filming or adjustment.
- Maintain consistent pacing, structure and visual flow.
- Work with the team to meet production deadlines and quality standards.

Opening and summary slides

- Review each lesson and identify its key learning goals.
- Create an opening slide outlining what the video will cover in concise bullet points.
- Create a concluding slide summarising the key concepts, theorems, rules and techniques covered.
- Include relevant diagrams, useful tips and worked reminders where appropriate.
- Complete minor final edits and adjustments to prepare each video for release.

Worksheet and application question development

- Develop suitable question sets for worksheets and application videos, aligned with lesson content and student ability.
- Use past tests, examination papers and other relevant resources as references to develop original questions.
- Select questions that build understanding and provide a useful range of practice.
- Use online tools to streamline solution generation, checking all questions and solutions for accuracy, clarity and completeness.
- Provide question and solution content to the team for formatting and publication.

Requirements

Essential

- Completion of Year 12 Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics (SACE or equivalent).
- Solid understanding of mathematical concepts and a high level of numerical accuracy.
- Basic video editing skills; advanced effects are not required.
- Ability to work on-site in Mawson Lakes, SA 5095.
- Excellent attention to detail and clear communication skills.
- Reliability, trustworthiness and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
- Competence with standard computer operations and file management.

Desirable

- Experience using Wondershare Filmora, Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro or similar editing software.
- Previous experience in tutoring, education, teaching support or educational resource development.
- Strong subject knowledge in one or more of Biology, Chemistry, General Mathematics or Physics.

Payment and Working Arrangements

- Subcontractor position: You will need to hold or obtain an ABN.
- Video editing: $1 per minute of raw footage, with an estimated editing equivalent of approximately $30 per hour, depending on editing speed and the footage.
- Opening and summary slides: An additional fixed $30 per video,

allowing approximately one hour for the opening slide, concluding summary and minor final adjustments.
- Total payment per video: $1 × raw footage minutes, plus $30. For example, a video with 40 minutes of raw footage would attract a total payment of $70.
- Worksheet and application question development: Paid at $30 per hour. This may transition to an agreed task-based rate for a complete worksheet or question set and its solutions.
- Hours: Minimum 10 hours per week, with versatile scheduling and potential for additional work based on workload.
- Performance reviews: Every six months, with potential rate increases based on reliability and work quality.

Future Opportunities

Depending on your subject knowledge, interests and suitability, the role may expand to include:

- Editing Biology and Chemistry videos and developing accompanying worksheets and application questions.
- Recording educational videos for senior Mathematics and Science courses.
- Helping develop future General Mathematics and Physics courses, including core lesson content and supporting resources.

Interview Process

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an in-person interview at our Mawson Lakes office. The interview will include two short tasks:

- Mathematical Explanation Task: Explain the solution to a mathematical problem clearly and logically, as though teaching a student.
- Video Review Task: Watch a short mathematics video and identify three deliberate errors, such as incorrect equations, logical errors or inaccurate statements.

These tasks assess the subject knowledge, communication skills and attention to detail required for the role.

How to Apply

Please send your CV — no cover letter required — outlining your educational background, relevant mathematical studies, and any experience in video editing, tutoring or educational content creation.

For all enquiries about the role, please contact [email protected].

Pay: $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 10.0 per week
