Senior civil role in land development, Brisbane. You run the jobs while a separate team does the design. And there's a real path to owning part of the business.
That's the short version. Here's the rest.
This is a senior role where project management is the job. Full stop. You'd run land development jobs for private developers, mostly greenfield subdivisions plus some infill with heavy civil. Fee proposals, programme, budgets, invoicing, site meetings, council as the authority.
The design's done by a separate design team. You check it and steer it. Nobody's going to hand you a 12D model.
That's not to say your design background doesn't count. It does. You know when a drawing's wrong and when something's going to cost money on site. That's what keeps the jobs tight.
Here's the bit that's actually different.
The teams run like a business within a business. Your patch, your plan. You make the calls on how it grows, and nobody's looking over your shoulder.
And the business is employee-owned. Once you get to associate there's a proper pathway into shares, with dividends. So when your jobs make money, some of it comes back to you.
They pay people what they're worth, too. A while back they had an engineer interview really well. Could've started him five grand lower and he'd probably have taken it. They didn't. Started him at the top of the range,
and when he performed they brought his review forward, just like they promised.
Real rewards (not just competitive). Two bonuses a year on top of salary, each worth a weeks pay, based on how the business is going. The last one got paid double.
The flexibility's genuine. It's set up around you and the role, and fully remote is on the table if that's what works. Most people still come in a few days a week because they like the people.
There's unpaid leave as well, so if you want a proper block of time off you don't have to resign to get it. Memberships and study get paid for.
It's a social bunch. They hire for personality and steer well clear of big egos. The teams meet every week to work out how to do things better, so nothing gets stale.
Honest bit. Some of the work is regional, so there'll be the odd trip to site. And you'll be juggling a few developer clients at once, all of whom think their job's the priority. If that stresses you out, this isn't the one.
You'll have been running civil land development jobs for a positive while, ideally for private developers. Consulting or contractor background, both are fine. You'll be confident in front of a client and happy to back your own judgement.
