Our client, DG Agri Pty Ltd at Naracoorte, SA is looking for an experienced Agricultural Consultant to join the team. Set in South Australia's Limestone Coast, one of the country's most productive farming regions, DG Agri runs a diverse mixed farming operation spanning fruit production, broadacre crops including corn and barley, and the growing of silage, fodder and pasture. Working across both horticulture and cropping, the business supplies quality produce and feed through the seasons and takes a hands-on, improvement-minded approach to everything it grows.
Your recent role
With production expanding across several enterprises at once, DG Agri needs a dedicated specialist to bring agronomic science to its day-to-day decisions, lifting yields, protecting soils and keeping every part of the farm running efficiently.
In this role you will:
- Guide management and farm staff on best practice across the production, handling, processing and distribution of the farm's fruit, grain and fodder lines, so quality holds from paddock to buyer.
- Research seasonal conditions, agricultural trends and market movements, and turn that analysis into sound planting, harvest and sales decisions for each enterprise.
- Evaluate the efficiency of cropping, orchard, silage and pasture operations, then develop and roll out strategies that lift productivity and overall profitability.
- Make recommendations on land use, paddock rotation and crop selection across the corn, barley and fruit programmes, and advise on livestock management where the farm's fodder and pasture output supports grazing enterprises.
- Collect and analyse samples of produce, soil,
fertiliser and feed, along with production data, to understand the factors driving yield and quality on each block.
- Advise on the control of pests, weeds and crop and livestock disease, on soil improvement programmes, and on animal husbandry and feeding programmes built around home-grown fodder.
- Drive the adoption of sustainable farming practices, from water and soil health management through to responsible chemical use and rotation planning, and suggest alternative agricultural options worth trialling.
- Plan and deliver practical training sessions and workshops for farm workers and seasonal staff on improved production techniques.
- Work with government agencies and industry organisations on agricultural programmes, policies and compliance matters relevant to the farm.
About you
- At least 1 year of experience in a similar role.
- A bachelor's degree or higher qualification.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to turn data into practical on-farm advice.
- A clear communicator who works well with farm staff, suppliers and industry contacts alike.
- Well organised, self-driven and comfortable managing competing priorities across the seasons.
- Genuine commitment to sustainable, efficient farming.
Salary & Employment Conditions:
- This is a permanent, full-time position of 38 hours per week.
- We'll offer our successful applicant $75,000 to $85,000 plus superannuation per annum.
If this sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you! Please be sure to combine a covering letter addressing the key criteria set out above as the first page of your resume.
