Eastgate on the Range Motel is a 4-star, 39-room motel in a prime hilltop location in Toowoomba, featuring an on-site restaurant and bar with seating for over 36 guests. Our dinner service includes à la carte dining and room service, operating from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm. We are looking for a casual chef to join our team as a second chef, covering the Head Chef's days off.
This role offers approximately 2–3 days per week, with Mondays essential, and flexibility around the remaining days and start times. This position could suit someone looking for a second job or a parent looking to re-enter the workforce.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare and cook dishes using a variety of fresh and frozen ingredients, maintaining a consistent, high standard.
- Work autonomously and confidently in a solo chef role.
- Practise effective stock rotation and minimise wastage.
- Complete mise en place before service, with an average start time of 4:30 pm.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and regulatory compliance.
- Follow food safety procedures, with a solid emphasis on allergen management.
- Manage a large menu of over 30 items.
- Demonstrate excellent time management and work efficiently under pressure in an unpredictable setting.
- Prioritise effectively between room service orders and guests dining in the restaurant.
- Work collaboratively with the wider team and communicate effectively.
About you
- A Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.
- A Food Safety Supervisor Certificate.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- The ability to prioritise tasks and maintain quality under pressure.
- A sound understanding of food hygiene, safety and allergen management.
- Desirable: Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certification.
- Desirable: Current First Aid and CPR certification.
