Most “career progression” promises are vague. This one isn’t.
Our client, a large, highly automated food processing operation in Brisbane’s south-east, is looking for an Electrical Automation Engineer to work alongside their long-standing Automation Manager. He’s been in the electrical trade since 1986 and is planning his next chapter. The plan is to hand over everything he knows to the right person, who will then step into the Automation Manager role.
If you’re an automation engineer who loves solving a fault properly, wants to own a site end to end, and is ready for a leadership step, keep reading.
The Opportunity
This is a large, complex, process-heavy site. It runs PLC-controlled automated material handling and food processing equipment, with a big SCADA program ahead. You’ll start by delivering projects and learning how the plant is put together. Over time you’ll become the go-to expert for the whole site.
What you’ll be doing
- Delivering automation and electrical projects that move the plant forward
- Getting hands-on during breakdowns to keep production running, then using root cause analysis so the same fault doesn’t come back
- Working on Ignition SCADA, including the migration from Vision to Perspective
- Building a deep understanding of process flows and interlocks across refrigeration, wastewater, boilers and utilities, the kill floor, the boning room and the single chain system
- Supporting and upskilling a large electrical team (shift and day electricians plus apprentices) when they need programming or fault-finding help
- Contributing to asset management and maintenance strategy
- Getting involved in exciting new work: AI vision cameras and bringing the entire factory onto SCADA
What you’ll bring
- An electrical engineering background, or strong electrical/automation experience
- A full Electrician's license is desirable
- Experience with Rockwell Allen-Bradley PLCs (the site standard)
- Ignition SCADA experience (Vision and/or Perspective) or strong experience with a similar platform
- Proven fault-finding ability in a production environment, and the ability to understand process, not just code
- Exposure to wastewater, refrigeration, boilers or utility systems (highly regarded)
- Familiarity with VSDs/drives and motors; Siemens Safety PLC exposure is a bonus
Just as significant: how you work
- You follow through. When you take something on, it gets finished.
- You’re always looking for a better way to do things.
- You share what you know. This team doesn’t want gatekeepers.
- You’re keen to learn and to grow into leadership.
What’s on offer
- $155k + super + 10% bonus + OT
- A clear, supported pathway to Automation Manager
- One-on-one mentoring and full knowledge transfer from a highly experienced Automation Manager
- Day shift, Monday to Friday (typically 7am–4pm), fully on-site
- Variety and scale: no two days are the same on a site this size
- Real project ownership, including SCADA expansion and AI vision technology
