Samies Seafoods is looking for a reliable, friendly and hardworking Retail Assistant to join our fresh seafood team at Portside Wharf.

This is a hands-on role involving customer service, fresh seafood preparation, product presentation and the day-to-day running of the retail shop. The successful applicant will be comfortable handling fresh seafood, serving customers and working independently when required.

Key responsibilities

- Provide friendly and efficient customer service.
- Assist customers with seafood selections, product information and recommendations.
- Weigh, price, wrap and pack fresh seafood orders.
- Prepare, portion and display seafood products as required.
- Maintain attractive, well-stocked and hygienic seafood displays.
- Receive, store and rotate seafood stock, maintaining appropriate temperature control.
- Monitor product quality, freshness and presentation.
- Operate the point-of-sale system and process customer payments.
- Open and prepare the shop for trade, including setting up displays and workstations.
- Complete end-of-day duties, including cleaning, packing down displays, storing seafood correctly and securing the shop.
- Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene and workplace cleanliness.
- Assist with stock rotation,



stocktake and general retail duties.
- Follow all workplace health and safety procedures.

About you
- Previous retail, seafood or hospitality experience is preferred.
- Experience handling fresh seafood is an advantage.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Reliable, punctual and well organised.
- Comfortable working in a chilled, wet and physically demanding workplace.
- Able to work independently and as part of a small team.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to food safety.
- Available to work a rotating roster across seven days, including weekends and public holidays as required.

Hours of operation
- Monday–Thursday: 9:00 am–6:00 pm
- Friday–Sunday: 8:00 am–6:00 pm

Shifts may include opening and closing duties, with start and finish times arranged according to the roster.
