The Prospect
We are seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Project Manager to lead the first phase of a major infrastructure separation and transformation program within the utilities sector. This is a high-impact opportunity to lead the establishment of an independent, client-controlled infrastructure environment, delivering critical infrastructure capabilities within a complex, multi-vendor enterprise environment. Phase 1 involves a greenfield infrastructure build running in parallel with existing production services, followed by a carefully managed, phased transition to the new environment. You will take ownership of end-to-end delivery, from initial architecture planning and scope validation through to design, implementation, operational readiness and handover.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end program delivery: Manage scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, dependencies, quality and reporting to achieve Phase 1 delivery milestones.
- Drive planning and scope definition: Lead the Architecture Plan and Roadmap (APR) discovery and validation stage in collaboration with the Senior Solution Architect.
- Manage commercial deliverables: Coordinate Statements of Work (SOWs) across architecture planning, design, individual delivery work packages and Phase 1 support.
- Oversee infrastructure work packages: Coordinate the design and delivery of infrastructure capabilities spanning servers, storage, backup and recovery, identity and access management, DNS/DHCP, endpoint protection, patching, network and infrastructure management, controlled file transfer and associated enterprise integrations.
- Coordinate technical teams and vendors: Lead delivery across solution architects, engineers, vendors and specialist security resources, ensuring alignment between technical designs and program outcomes.
- Manage financial performance: Track effort, expenditure, forecasts, procurement dependencies and variations against approved baselines, maintaining accurate time-and-materials reporting.
- Establish effective governance: Drive RAID management, weekly status reporting, steering committee papers, financial reporting, change control and decision registers.
- Manage implementation and operational risk: Coordinate change approvals, releases and implementation activities affecting live services, minimising disruption to business-critical operations.
- Drive operational readiness: Ensure testing, training, documentation, support arrangements, acceptance criteria and handover requirements are completed ahead of the transition to Phase 1 support and operations.
- Maintain compliance and scope discipline: Work with technical and security specialists to support compliance objectives, maintain required delivery evidence and ensure additional scope proceeds through appropriate discovery and approval processes.
Skills and Experience
- A recognised project management qualification, such as PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner or equivalent.
- Proven experience managing complex ICT infrastructure projects across areas such as data centres, servers, storage, networking, identity, cloud or enterprise platforms.
- Demonstrated experience delivering multi-vendor infrastructure programs of comparable scale, including services valued at approximately $1.5 million.
- Strong commercial and financial management skills, including SOW management, budgeting, forecasting, procurement dependencies and variations.
- Proven capability in integrated project planning, risk and issue management, governance, executive reporting and change control.
- Sufficient technical understanding of enterprise infrastructure, identity and network management to challenge assumptions, validate estimates and manage technical dependencies.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise status reports, steering committee papers and decision records.
- A calm, decisive and pragmatic approach to resolving delivery challenges and meeting demanding deadlines.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within energy, utilities, telecommunications or other critical infrastructure environments.
- Exposure to Operational Technology (OT), segregated infrastructure environments or infrastructure separation programs.
- Experience in cybersecurity delivery, security architecture or compliance frameworks such as the Security of Critical Infrastructure (SOCI) Act, AESCSF or Essential Eight.
- Familiarity with enterprise platforms and shared services such as ServiceNow, Dynamics 365, Active Directory, Infoblox, Secret Server and Splunk On-Call.
Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to take a leading role in a significant infrastructure transformation for a Queensland energy and telecommunications client. You will have ownership of a complex, business-critical delivery program, work alongside experienced technical specialists and coordinate multiple delivery partners to establish a new infrastructure environment and transition priority capabilities into operation.
