The Company
This is a family owned South Australian civil contractor that has been operating for 40+ years in Adelaide. They deliver complex infrastructure projects for state and local government, utility providers and major private-sector clients.
The business has an experienced local team, an extensive fleet and the capability to self-perform a large portion of its work. They are well regarded for their delivery across roads, intersections, utilities and urban infrastructure, with a solid focus on quality and long-term client relationships.
What’s On Offer
- A genuinely hands-on role, with around 70% of your time spent diagnosing faults and fixing equipment
- Variety across small plant, trucks and heavy earthmoving machinery, from tools and small engines through to 40t excavators
- The opportunity to carry out repairs in-house, from replacing an excavator’s hydraulic hose to getting equipment ready for its next job
- A mix of yard and site work, with a vehicle provided when you need to drive to site to repair equipment
- Paid overtime available, with days generally running 7am–5:30pm and the option to work every second Saturday.
- Handover from an experienced team member who will remain in the business
- An opportunity for either an experienced mechanic wanting autonomy or someone who has recently completed a mechanical apprenticeship
The Role
- Carrying out hands-on repairs and preventative maintenance on plant, vehicles and equipment
- Diagnosing faults and responding to breakdowns, including attending sites when required
- Coordinating external servicing and repairs where work cannot be completed in-house
- Checking equipment as it returns to the yard and preparing it for redeployment
- Monitoring service intervals, defects and equipment condition
- Sourcing parts and managing critical spares and workshop consumables
- Maintaining accurate service records and asset information
- Working with the operations team to prioritise maintenance around project needs
The Criteria
- Experience maintaining plant, vehicles, machinery or equipment
- Strong mechanical fault-finding and practical problem-solving skills
- Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems
- Good communication skills and a current driver’s licence
- A mechanical trade qualification, civil plant experience, welding skills, forklift licence or HR/HC licence would be highly regarded
