Our client, RAMS Sheetmetal Engineering, is an established sheet metal fabrication business based in Dandenong South, Victoria, specialising in steel and aluminium fabrication, laser cutting, sheet metal folding, welding and customised metal manufacturing solutions. The business provides precision‑engineered sheet metal products and fabrication services, including custom‑designed components, prototypes and finished metal assemblies for a diverse range of commercial and industrial applications.

As part of their ongoing operations and business requirements, they are seeking a skilled and experienced Welder to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for welding, joining and assembling steel and aluminium components used in sheet metal fabrication and customised manufacturing projects, ensuring completed work meets technical specifications, structural integrity requirements and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform welding of steel and aluminium components used in sheet metal fabrication and customised metal manufacturing.
- Prepare, position, align and assemble metal components prior to welding in accordance with technical drawings and specifications.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, plans and specifications to determine welding requirements and appropriate techniques.
- Join metal sections and components using MIG, TIG and other appropriate welding techniques and equipment.
- Inspect completed welds for accuracy, penetration,



strength and overall quality to ensure compliance with required standards.
- Identify and rectify welding defects to ensure finished components meet technical specifications and quality requirements.
- Grind, clean and finish welded joints and metal surfaces to achieve the required quality and appearance.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment, hand tools and associated workshop machinery safely and effectively.
- Work collaboratively with fabrication and production team members to complete welding and assembly tasks efficiently.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including the correct use of personal protective equipment and safe handling of materials and machinery.

Required Skills and Experience

- Relevant trade qualification in welding or metal fabrication, such as Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade, or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Minimum 1 year of relevant professional experience in welding or metal fabrication.
- Demonstrated experience in welding and assembling steel and aluminium components.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, engineering plans and specifications.
- Sound knowledge of MIG, TIG and other relevant welding techniques, equipment and workshop practices.
- Robust attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds and finished metal components.
- Ability to inspect completed welds and identify defects or required rectification.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Previous experience in sheet metal fabrication, steel fabrication or a similar manufacturing environment will be highly regarded.
