Chief Executive Officer

Queensland Men's Shed Association (QMSA)

Location: Greater Brisbane region – Work from home with statewide travel
Employment: Full-time | 3-year contract
Salary: SCHADS Level 8 plus super, with salary packaging and the option of a fully maintained vehicle for private use.

ABOUT OUR ORGANISATION

The Queensland Men's Shed Association (QMSA) is the peak body representing and supporting approximately 250 Men's Sheds across Queensland.

Men's Sheds play an important role in communities, providing places where men can connect, develop friendships, share skills and find a sense of belonging and purpose. They make a valuable contribution to men's health and wellbeing, particularly by reducing social isolation.

QMSA works to strengthen and support this movement. We help Men's Sheds develop and thrive through practical advice, governance support, networking, capacity building and health and wellbeing initiatives. We also advocate for Men's Sheds and build partnerships with government and other organisations to increase their reach and impact.

We are a largely volunteer-led organisation, supported by a small staff team and a statewide network of Zone Chairs. Our work is funded primarily by the Queensland and Australian Governments.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a capable, energetic and community-minded Chief Executive Officer to lead QMSA into its next chapter. This opportunity arises as our current CEO prepares for retirement, providing a planned leadership transition and the opportunity to build on the organisations strong foundations and achievements.

This is an opportunity to lead an established statewide organisation that makes a real difference in the lives of men and their communities.

Reporting to the Board, you'll provide both strategic direction and hands-on leadership, strengthening our organisation while ensuring Men's Sheds across Queensland receive the support they need.

You'll work closely with volunteers, local Shed committees, government agencies and community partners to build relationships, secure funding and develop opportunities that improve men's health and wellbeing.

You'll also oversee the delivery of government-funded programs, manage our small staff team and ensure QMSA maintains sound governance, financial management and reporting.

This is not a desk-bound CEO position. An important part of the role is getting out into communities, visiting Men's Sheds, listening to their members and helping them overcome challenges and seize opportunities.

This is a work-from-home position based in the Greater Brisbane region, with regular travel throughout Queensland to visit Men's Sheds, attend events and engage with members and stakeholders.

You'll have the opportunity to shape QMSA's future, strengthen its financial sustainability and champion the contribution Men's Sheds make to Queensland communities.

ABOUT YOU

We're looking for someone who combines strong organisational leadership with a genuine commitment to community development and making a difference.

You'll be comfortable working at both strategic and operational levels, engaging with government and funding partners one day and sitting down with volunteers at a local Men's Shed the next.

Ideally, you'll bring:

- Senior leadership experience in the not-for-profit, membership or community sector, including working with a volunteer Board or Management Committee.

- A demonstrated ability to secure and manage government funding, grants, sponsorships and partnerships.

- Strong relationship-building, communication and advocacy skills.

- Experience supporting and motivating volunteers, particularly across geographically dispersed communities.

- Sound financial management, governance and organisational management capabilities.

- An understanding of community development, health promotion or social connection programs.

- A practical, collaborative approach and the willingness to roll up your sleeves when needed.

Experience with peak bodies, men's health or social isolation initiatives would be an advantage, as would relevant tertiary qualifications.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can build trust, work effectively with volunteers and stakeholders, and bring both initiative and sound judgement to a small, purpose-driven organisation.

The successful applicant will need a current Queensland driver's licence, the right to work in Australia, a satisfactory National Police Check and a willingness to travel regularly throughout Queensland.

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS

This role offers the opportunity to combine meaningful community impact with considerable autonomy and flexibility.

- SCHADS Level 8 plus super, with salary packaging and the option of a fully maintained vehicle for private use.

- Work from home in the Greater Brisbane region, with no daily office commute.

- Flexible working arrangements suited to a statewide leadership role.

- Opportunities to travel throughout Queensland and build relationships with diverse communities.

- The chance to lead an established organisation, work with committed volunteers and make a tangible difference to men's health and wellbeing.

This is a full-time position (38 hours per week), offered on a three-year contract with review.
