Ramsay Health Care is seeking an experienced Medical Director to help establish its dedicated phase 1 clinical trials unit at Greenslopes Private Hospital in Brisbane.
This appointment forms part of Ramsay's investment in expanding its Research & Development Network across therapeutic areas and phases of clinical development. It offers the prospect to introduce healthy volunteer trials into an established hospital environment and contribute to the development of further dedicated facilities.
The Role
Reporting to the Director, Research & Development, you will provide medical leadership and clinical governance for healthy volunteer and early phase clinical trials, with participant safety central to your responsibilities.
You will help prepare the unit for opening, establish clinical procedures and develop medical and nursing support arrangements. Working closely with site teams, pharmacists and specialist visiting medical officers, you will oversee consent, dosing and trial conduct in accordance with protocols and Good Clinical Practice.
You will also build relationships with pharmaceutical sponsors and contract research organisations,



support tenders and contribute to the growth of the trials portfolio. Where appropriately qualified, credentialled and appointed, you will act as Principal Investigator for selected studies.
The Candidate
We are seeking a collaborative medical leader with direct experience in healthy volunteer and first in human clinical trials. You will bring:
Strong knowledge of starting dose assessment and dose escalation, including MABEL and NOAEL approaches. Sound clinical judgement and experience managing participant safety and trial-related toxicity. An understanding of clinical trial methodology, ICH Good Clinical Practice, risk assessment and quality assurance. The ability to lead and develop clinical teams and build productive sponsor and stakeholder relationships. Experience within a contract research organisation or comparable early phase research setting is desirable. Experience commissioning or developing a clinical trials unit would be particularly valuable.
