Steel Mains is Australia's leading manufacturer and supplier of complete pipeline systems for the transportation of water and wastewater, offering a total solutions approach to its customers.We are seeking a Graduate Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Somerton team on a permanent, full-time basis.Reporting to the Engineering Services Manager, and working with a small group of dedicated designers, the role involves design and development of new products and equipment, tooling, and improvements to existing equipment, including participation in installation and commissioning.
The Engineering Services group technically supports all aspects of the business including manufacturing for processes, tooling and equipment and sales, marketing and customers for pipeline products.Areas of responsibilities include:Design, design calculations and detailed drawings of cost effective manufacturing equipment or modifications to improve productivity, safety and reliability.Design and detailed drawings of tooling, pipe joints and pipe fittings.Documentation of plant functionality and specification of electrical, hydraulic,



safety and pneumatic system requirements for mechanical designsConduct risk assessments of current plant design and modificationsDirect support of the manufacturing/maintenance teamProvide the sales and marketing teams with product technical support and design information for estimating product pricing and quotationsComply with Engineering Procedures within the company quality systemThe candidate must have:Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (member of the Institute of Engineers, Australia or is able for admission).
Inventor or SolidWorks competenceDesign calculations skillsKnowledge of Australian Drawing and Design standards.A positive attitude and a willingness to learn and work with others in a team environmentFlexibility to progress projects from concept to completed detailed drawings.Strong written and verbal communications skills with all levels of the company.Desirable experience, not essential:Knowledge of design calculation methods and standards required for mechanical components designBasic understanding of Industrial Hydraulics and PneumaticsWith important projects in the "pipeline", this is an exciting time to join Steel Mains.
