Job Type: Casual
Job Category: Community Services and Development
Job Description
Community-minded, adaptable and ready to make a difference?
We're looking for two Casual Regional Liaison Officers to support workers participating in the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme across the Mallala and Virginia areas.
This is a practical, people-focused role supporting workers from Pacific Island nations as they live and work in Australia.
You'll be someone workers can rely on for everyday assistance, wellbeing support and community connection, while also being capable of responding quickly and confidently when unexpected situations arise.
We're looking for people who are compassionate, but equally significant, proactive, accountable and comfortable making decisions when priorities change.
What does the role involve?
You'll provide a combination of pastoral care, practical assistance and worker advocacy, including:
Building trusted relationships and providing ongoing wellbeing support
Assisting with medical appointments, transport and accommodation needs
Helping workers access local services and community activities
Supporting workers with workplace and personal matters
Assisting with arrivals, inductions and departures
Conducting regular worker check-ins and accommodation inspections
Responding to urgent or unexpected worker needs, assessing priorities and taking appropriate action
Working independently and exercising sound judgement when situations aren't straightforward
Adapting quickly to changing priorities and operational requirements
Completing accurate records and incident reports, including while working remotely or in the field
Communicating promptly with MADEC's administration team, host employers and other stakeholders
Identifying and escalating safety, wellbeing or workplace concerns
About you
We're interested in people who bring:
A strong sense of urgency and personal accountability, particularly when responding to worker needs
The ability to triage competing priorities and recognise when immediate action or escalation is required
Confidence working through ambiguity, making practical decisions when there's no obvious solution
Flexibility, initiative and the ability to adapt as circumstances change
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach
Strong organisation, computer literacy and attention to administrative detail
Empathy, cultural awareness and the ability to build trust
Local knowledge of Mallala, Virginia and surrounding communities
Confidence working independently and taking ownership of responsibilities
Experience working with culturally diverse communities or in community services, health, education, employment services or similar environments would be highly regarded.
A few things to know
We're recruiting two casual positions, with hours varying according to worker and operational needs.
Some after-hours availability will be necessary for worker arrivals, emergencies and other time-sensitive support.
Because timely, in-person assistance is an important part of the role, we're looking for candidates who are genuinely local to Mallala, Virginia or the surrounding area and able to respond promptly when required.
A current driver's licence and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain) are required.
Why MADEC?
You'll be part of a purpose-driven organisation supporting people to live and work successfully in Australia.
This is an opportunity to combine meaningful community engagement with practical responsibility, independence and variety.
If you're someone who takes ownership, thinks on their feet and genuinely cares about helping people, we'd love to hear from you.
