Sunshine Coast

Full-time Zoologist position available with market-competitive salary. Work in a dynamic team in Sunshine Coast QLD.

About Us
Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers is a Queensland-based wildlife and reptile management business providing professional snake catching, wildlife relocation, species identification and community education services across the Sunshine Coast region. The business operates under authorisations issued by the Queensland Department of Environment, Science and Innovation (or its successor) pursuant to the Nature Conservation Act 1992 (Qld) and subordinate regulations, and is committed to the humane handling, welfare and relocation of native wildlife in accordance with best-practice standards.

Our team comprises licensed wildlife handlers, zoologists and ecologists who respond to reptile and wildlife incidents 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and who contribute to the broader protection of Queensland's native fauna through education, research support and community engagement.

About the role
The Zoologist is a technical and operational role responsible for the safe capture, handling, identification and relocation of snakes and other native wildlife, and for providing specialist zoological advice to clients, colleagues and the community. The role combines field work with public-facing education, record keeping and regulatory compliance.

The Zoologist is expected to apply tertiary-level zoological knowledge in day-to-day operations, to maintain the highest standards of animal welfare and work health and safety, and to represent Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers professionally in dealings with members of the public, government agencies, veterinarians, researchers and other stakeholders.

- Contribute identifications and distribution records to internal databases and, where appropriate, to external citizen-science or research platforms.
- Deliver presentations, workshops and site visits to schools, community groups, workplaces and government agencies on topics including snake awareness, native wildlife, bite first aid and coexistence with reptiles;
- Prepare and review written educational materials,

website content and social media posts, ensuring factual accuracy and alignment with Queensland wildlife law;
- Respond to public enquiries by phone, email and social media in a professional and informed manner.
- Record each capture, relocation and release event, including species, location (with GPS coordinates), date, time, condition of the animal, method of capture and release site;
- Maintain records required by the conditions of the business's wildlife authorisations and by the Nature Conservation Act 1992 (Qld) and the Nature Conservation (Animals) Regulation 2020 (Qld);
