Placed Recruitment
Brisbane
We are thrilled to continue working with this long-standing family-owned hospitality group, which has iconic venues across Brisbane’s entertainment scene, each with its own identity, audience and culture.
This is a new, hybrid role with two halves: Events Manager and Executive Assistant. Tuesday to Thursday you’ll be in the office getting the business ready for the weeks, months and year ahead. Friday and Saturday you’ll be on the floor running functions and events.
For the first three to six months you’ll run functions side by side with the owners. The aim is transparent: by mid-2027, the entire functions and events department is yours, from the first enquiry to the final follow-up.
What you’ll be doing
Functions & events
- Managing private functions from enquiry to delivery: quoting, bookings, invoicing, food orders, photobooth, signage and logistics
- Writing detailed run sheets that work for every department (kitchen, bar, floor, managers, AV) and being months ahead of them, not days
- Reviewing each event straight after it runs: what worked, what didn’t, and what to buy now for next year
- Delivering a great guest experience on the night and following up afterwards to build repeat business
- Liaising confidently with clients, suppliers, council, OLGR and police on applications such as extended trading and activations
Executive assistant & operations
- Phones, emails and all online enquiries
- Weekly compliance and HR checks (RSAs, training records, onboarding paperwork) and venue self-audits
- Organising the Microsoft 365 / Teams environment so documents and policies can be found in seconds
- Updating menus and signage in Canva, then printing,
laminating and putting them up yourself
Making the business better
- Improving systems, procedures and policies, including staff induction and function management
- Spotting the smarter way to do things, including where AI and automation can save time
About you
- Agile. Priorities can change in an hour. When something urgent lands, you park what you’re doing, deal with it and pick up where you left off.
- Great with people. Charming, well presented and confident with guests, clients and suppliers, in person and on the phone.
- Ego-free. Nothing is beneath you.
- Tech-savvy. Comfortable in Microsoft 365, Teams and Canva. An interest in AI tools is a real bonus.
Essential
- Proven experience managing functions and events in a hospitality venue (pub, bar, club or similar; not purely hotel banqueting)
- Solid administration experience
- Strong skills in Microsoft 365, Teams and Canva/design
Hours & package
- $90,000 – $110,000 + superannuation
- About 40–42 hours a week. The owners mean it, and stick to it.
- Typical roster: Tue–Thu 9am–6pm (office), Fri–Sat 1:30pm–10pm (venue). This shifts around special events and the Christmas season.
Why you’ll love it
- You get to build and own a department and leave your mark on a growing business
- A supportive, family-owned leadership team, and a growing team so you won’t be doing it all alone
- Exposure to every part of a busy, multi-venue hospitality group
- A great chance to mostly step off the floor and harness your office skills.
Additional information
- Excellent remuneration
- Mostly autonomous role running the whole events department
- Work directly alongside the owner-operators
