This is a privately owned group running multiple venues across Brisbane under a three entity structure, with two sites opened in the last year and more in the pipeline. The Director built it independently and is still across the detail on the operations side. There is no finance leader above this seat. You are it. The Director is one of the best owner operators in the industry, reasonable, smart, down to earth and looking for a dedicated and driven finance professional he can rely on and work with on the strategy and growth of the business.

What the business wants is not another set of reports. It wants someone who understands what actually drives performance across the venues, then tells the Director what to do about it. Commercial analysis, trends, cash flow, contracts, the banking relationship. The numbers are the starting point, not the output. If you have spent a few years doing the work and waiting for someone to hand you the function, this is the role where you stop waiting...

The Opportunity

You report directly to the Director and you are the most senior finance person in the business. You sit between the venue managers, the suppliers, the banks and the owner, and you are the single point of contact for all of it. You will own month end - end to end, then spend the rest of your time on the commercial work that follows it.

This is hands on, so you are processing as well as advising, and you need to be comfortable with that for now. And it is five days on site, because the venues are open and the team is there. What you get in return is a dedicated car park,



a grown up approach to the odd day at home when you have tradies or an appointment, and a finish time that is actually a finish time. The processes were rebuilt properly this year, so month end is clean and the long nights are not part of this job.

What You’ll Do

The role splits roughly between owning the end to end finance function and acting as the commercial sounding board for the Director and the balance tips further toward the second as you get established.

- Run month end - end to end, including journals, accruals, prepayments and reconciliations
- Produce the management reporting pack and the commercial analysis that sits behind it
- Own cash flow forecasting and day to day bank account management across the entities
- Build the budgets and forecasts, then hold the business to them
- Act as the main point of contact for banks, vendors and contract negotiations
- Manage compliance across the group, including BAS, payroll tax and year end
- Mentor an undergraduate accountant and work alongside a payroll and accounts officer
- Advise the owner directly on where the business invests next and what it should stop doing

Who You Are

The first filter is temperament.



You need initiative, because nobody is going to set your week for you, and you need patience with operators who do not think in debits and credits and require your business partnering skills to understand the numbers better.

Underneath that sits a real technical base, because you are the one closing the ledger, and there is nobody above you to check it.

- A self starter who is comfortable deciding what matters without being told
- Patient and empathetic with non finance colleagues, and genuinely good at explaining numbers to them
- Happy to roll your sleeves up on the transactional work while you build toward the commercial work
- Solid end to end month end and management reporting experience
- Confident across cash flow, budgeting and forecasting
- Comfortable in a multi entity environment
- Willing to mentor a junior and bring them along
- CA or CPA qualified, or well underway
- Multi site or venue based experience is an advantage, not a requirement

The Offer

$120k to $130k + super, five days on site with a dedicated car park, a small finance team that is genuinely good, and a clean set of books to inherit rather than repair.

The person in the seat now is staying on for a proper handover, and is leaving to start their own business, which is a fair indication of what this role teaches you about the holistic approach in running large profitable businesses.
