MRAEL in partnership with BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) are seeking candidates to undertake a Diesel Fitting Apprenticeship at Caval Ridge Mide, Commencing in January 2027.
Working on a mine site with a strong focus on creating a safe work environment where employees are enabled to reach their full potential, where they feel strongly connected to their values and objectives, and where the skills and abilities of their people are a key differentiator of success.
Successful candidates will follow a structured and industry-specific training plan, learning on the job from experts in their field whilst completing a Certificate III in Mobile Plant Technology. This apprenticeship begins with a focus on Mobile Plant Technology.
What you’ll be doing:
- Assisting in the maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of mechanical systems on heavy mining equipment
- Learning to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documents
- Supporting the team with inspections and fault finding
- Adhering to strict safety and workplace procedures
Who are we seeking?
In the fixed-term position, the successful candidate will show an ability to work safely in a mining environment, demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills, be motivated to learn and develop recent skills, and have the ability to work constructively within a team.
The positions will be offered on a 7/7 roster arrangement. Local residents are encouraged to apply.
Both mature age applicants and students currently completing Year 12 are welcome to apply. If Year 12 has already been completed, the minimum requirement is that candidates achieved a Pass in Pre-vocational English and Mathematics or possess equivalent qualifications.

Location:
Moranbah based mine site – Bowen Basin DIDO and FIFO available.
DIDO (Drive-in-Drive-out) applicants must reside within a 4-hour commuting distance of Moranbah.
FIFO (Fly-in-Fly-out) applicants are expected to reside within 90 minutes or a 100km radius from the primary point of origin (Brisbane or Cairns airport) to meet the fit for work requirements.
To be successful, ideally you will have:
- Previous work experience in preferred trade
- Genuine interest in auto-electrical work and heavy equipment
- Certificate II in Automotive or Certificate II in Automotive Electrical Technology is highly regarded but not essential
- A strong focus on working safely
- Willingness to learn
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Senior certificate or equivalent
- Current Drivers Licence (no restrictions)
