Commercial Litigation Special Counsel

About the Role:

Our client is a well-established boutique law firm with a strong corporate client base and expertise spanning property, commercial litigation, corporate law, finance and wills, estates and probate. The firm advises a diverse range of clients, from family-owned businesses to high-net-worth individuals, delivering practical, commercially focused and cost-effective legal solutions.

The firm is seeking an experienced Commercial Litigation Special Counsel with 10+ years of litigation experience to lead complex disputes, develop effective legal strategies and provide trusted advice to clients. Based in Sydney CBD, this full time, on-site opportunity is suited to a senior practitioner who combines strong litigation expertise with commercial judgment, leadership capability and a client-focused approach.

You will take ownership of litigation matters, represent clients in court, negotiate settlements and guide clients through challenging disputes. This role offers the opportunity to contribute your expertise within an established boutique practice while strengthening client relationships and supporting the delivery of high-quality legal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead and manage commercial litigation matters from initial assessment and strategy development through hearings, negotiations and resolution.
- Represent clients in court proceedings and manage litigation-related appearances, filings and procedural requirements.
- Develop effective litigation strategies that align with clients' commercial objectives and legal interests.
- Advise clients on commercial and property disputes, assessing legal risks, potential outcomes and available resolution options.
- Draft, review and manage pleadings, affidavits, submissions, court documents and other legal correspondence.




- Negotiate settlements and pursue dispute resolution strategies that achieve practical and commercially sound outcomes.
- Liaise with clients, courts, opposing counsel and other relevant stakeholders throughout the litigation process.
- Maintain compliance with applicable laws, court rules, procedural requirements and professional obligations.
- Build and maintain trusted client relationships through clear communication, responsive advice and a strong understanding of clients' business priorities.
- Manage competing deadlines, case priorities and matter requirements while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism.

Required Qualifications:

- Minimum of 10 years of litigation experience, with substantial experience in commercial litigation.
- Expertise in commercial and property litigation is preferred, with experience in strata title and family law also advantageous.
- Demonstrated experience managing court proceedings, litigation strategy, legal documentation and procedural requirements.
- Strong advocacy, negotiation and settlement skills, with the ability to resolve complex disputes effectively.
- Excellent legal research, analytical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities.
- A commercially minded approach, with the ability to understand client priorities and deliver practical, cost-effective legal advice.
- Exceptional organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple matters and competing deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to advise clients and engage with courts and opposing counsel.
- A high level of professional judgment,
