About the role
Flinders Christian Community College is seeking a basketball head coach to join the Flinders Basketball Academy program in a part-time or flexible capacity. We are looking for someone who is well connected and capable of cultivating a culture of transformative excellence - who can coach our elite teams to perform at a state and national level, while building the external relationships and scholarship pathways that sustain program growth. The ideal candidate will be well connected into basketball pathways in Victoria and be looking for a flexible, part-time arrangement that complements existing commitments.
The context
Flinders Basketball is one of Victoria's most successful school basketball programs. Our curriculum-based Basketball Academy runs across two campuses (Tyabb and Carrum Downs), offering Basketball as a subject for students in Years 7 to 10. Over many years, the program has produced exceptional results at State and National competition level, with multiple championship titles, deep representation across age groups and both boys and girls programs, and students regularly progressing into Basketball Victoria High Performance pathways.
What makes Flinders Basketball distinctive is its culture — one shaped by genuine care, Christian faith, and a conviction that sport is one of the most powerful contexts for forming character and capability in young people. Families choose Flinders Basketball because of what it does for their children, not just what it wins. We are looking to take our program and pathway to the next level, and are looking for the right person to help us move in this direction.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for a candidate who is a good cultural fit and has experience in a number of the following areas:
- External basketball networks - whether that be basketball associations, professional basketball networks, representative coaching or feeder schools
- Ability to coach boys and girls teams at school representative competition level
- Track record of talent identification and scholarship pathway development
- Program leadership and sports administration experience
- Capacity to make clear team selection decisions and communicate professionally with families
- Coaching qualifications and experience
- Experience in parent engagement and managing stakeholder expectations in competitive sport
- Faith-aligned values and beliefs - we are a Christian school with a program built on fostering character and community to deliver excellence
