Tech Lead, Software Engineering (AI Product) | Fully Remote, Australia n

A venture-backed SaaS scale-up is hiring a hands-on tech lead to own the engineering behind its newest AI product. Its platform is already in use with large enterprise customers across several international markets.

The role n

You’ll take over technical direction of the product from a founder who is moving back into R&D; on what comes next. Expect about 80% of your time on the tools and 20% supporting and growing one mid-level engineer.

You’ll work closely with a small product group covering design and product.

What you’ll do n

Set the technical direction for an AI product already in production. You’ll decide with product and design what gets built, how and in what order.

Build features end to end in TypeScript, from data models and APIs through to the interface.
n
Own the reliability of LLM features after launch. That covers evaluation datasets, regression testing, monitoring, cost and latency, and fixing things when model behaviour shifts.
n
Prototype recent approaches quickly in Python and take the ones that work into production.

Mentor one engineer,



run regular one-to-ones, and help shape how the team grows.

What you’ll bring nn
5+ years in software engineering, with a backend or full stack foundation. This is a software role first, not a data science or research role.
n
Robust production TypeScript, including database schema design and infrastructure, plus working Python.
n
LLM features you shipped and then kept improving in production. You should be able to explain how you measured quality, caught regressions and debugged failures.
n
Experience with LangChain, LangGraph or similar orchestration tooling, and deploying on AWS.
n
Experience setting technical direction, and an interest in mentoring. Formal people management is a bonus, not a requirement.
n
A track record of staying long enough to see a product evolve over time.

Based in Australia with full working rights.

Document extraction experience, such as parsing PDFs or spreadsheets into structured, verifiable output.

Previous experience working fully remote.
