About Our Role
Simplot are seeking applications for the position of Control Systems Programmer to join our Engineering team based at our Devonport vegetable processing facility in North West Tasmania.
Reporting to the Control Systems Engineer, this role offers the opportunity to work within a highly automated manufacturing setting, supporting, maintaining and enhancing the site's automation and control systems.
You will play a key role in ensuring the reliable and efficient operation of manufacturing processes while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the facility.
What You Will Do
Develop, maintain and optimise PLC, SCADA and HMI systems across the siteDiagnose and resolve control system faults to minimise downtime and improve plant performanceSupport the implementation and commissioning of automation and control system projectsIdentify and deliver continuous improvement opportunities through automation and process optimisationWork collaboratively with Engineering, Production and Maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability and operational efficiencyMaintain control system documentation,



backups and change management processesProvide technical support and guidance to site personnel on automation and control systemsParticipate in capital projects and system upgrades, ensuring compliance with site and corporate standardsSupport safe work practices and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the business
About You
100% commitment to health, safety and wellbeing in the workplaceRelevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation, Control Systems Engineering or Certificate IV trade qualifications with extensive automation and programming experienceDemonstrated experience in industrial automation, process control or control systems programmingExperience with PLC and SCADA platforms, VSDs, Servos, ideally Allen Bradley/Rockwell systems, and Robots (ABB)Proficient with Ignition SCADA Vision and Perspective platforms using High-performance HMIsProgramming ability in Python and SQLCompetent Electrical CAD skillsStrong troubleshooting, fault-finding and problem-solving skillsWell-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skillsThe ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environmentA proactive approach to continuous improvement and innovationExperience within food manufacturing or a similar industrial environment will be highly regardedWillingness to undertake a pre-employment medical assessment, including drug and alcohol screening
