Senior Legal Counsel; Financial Services

We are seeking an experiencedSenior Legal Counselto join our Legal & Compliance team and play a pivotal role in supporting the organisation's regulatory, compliance and legal obligations.
About the role
Reporting to theCompliance Stream Leadand working closely with the General Counsel, you will provide specialist legal and compliance advice across a broad range of regulatory matters, with a robust focus on legal advice and assessments with respect to incidents, breach reporting, regulatory change, investigations, remediations and compliance risk management.
This is a diverse and influential role where you will partner with stakeholders across the business to ensure compliance obligations are met, while supporting strategic initiatives and delivering practical, commercially minded legal advice.
Key responsibilities
Provide legal advice and assess incidents to determine regulatory and compliance impacts
Support breach reporting obligations, investigations and remediation activities
Monitor and advise on regulatory developments and emerging compliance requirements
Provide legal and compliance advice to business units, project teams and senior leaders
Assist with maintaining and enhancing IMB's compliance framework and programs
Conduct compliance reviews and analyse trends to identify emerging risks and opportunities for improvement
Prepare reports and submissions for internal governance committees, executives, the Board and regulators




Develop compliance training and promote a strong culture of compliance across the organisation
About You
Tertiary qualifications in Law and admission to practice in NSW
Approximately 5-8+ years' post-admission experience
Experience within financial services, preferably in a retail bank, or an equivalent private practice setting
Experience advising on financial services regulatory breaches, reportable situations and compliance obligations
Exceptional analytical, investigation and problem-solving skills
Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to influence at all levels
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal matters into practical business advice
