Position: Civil Engineering Draftsperson Type: Full-time (38 hours per week) Employer: Deedo Circle Pty Ltd Location: Doncaster VIC **** Salary: $75,000 – $95,000 per annum plus superannuation About the Business Deedo Circle Pty Ltd is a Melbourne engineering and construction company based in Doncaster.
Its services cover civil engineering, residential construction, renovations, structural steel, light gauge steel framing and property development.
Because design, engineering, fabrication and building sit within one business, Deedo Circle can carry a project from early site planning to finished construction.
That arrangement gives clients one point of accountability and keeps engineering, framing and site teams working from the same information.
The company's culture values precision, practical problem solving and close collaboration between office and site.
Each team member contributes directly to the quality and compliance of the projects the business delivers across Melbourne.
About the Position The Civil Engineering Draftsperson turns engineering design into accurate, buildable technical documentation for Deedo Circle's civil, residential and development projects.
Working closely with the engineering team and site supervisors, the Draftsperson prepares the drawings, plans and quantities used for council and authority approvals, contractor pricing and on-site construction.
Projects run from site layouts and drainage through to integration with structural steel and light gauge steel framing systems, so the role is central to keeping designs coordinated, compliant and delivered on schedule.
Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed civil engineering drawings and plans, including site layouts, earthworks, grading, roads and driveways, pavements, stormwater drainage and service layouts, using CAD software.
Translate engineers' designs, sketches, calculations and mark-ups into accurate working drawings, sections, details and specifications.
Calculate dimensions, levels, areas, volumes and material quantities, and prepare quantity take-offs to support estimating and procurement.
Coordinate civil drawings with architectural, structural steel and light gauge steel framing documentation so that all project information is consistent.
Make sure drawings comply with relevant Australian Standards, the National Construction Code, local council requirements and authority specifications.
Prepare drawing packages and supporting documentation for planning, building permit and authority submissions, and update them in response to assessment feedback.
Review survey data, site measurements and existing conditions information, and attend sites when required to verify dimensions and conditions.
Revise and update drawings in response to design changes, engineer reviews, client requests and site feedback, and keep revision control accurate.
Maintain drawing registers, document control systems and project files so that teams always work from current approved drawings.
Liaise with engineers, project managers, site supervisors, surveyors, consultants and contractors to resolve technical drafting queries.
Check drawings for accuracy, clarity and completeness before issue, and correct errors and inconsistencies.
Prepare as-constructed drawings and project close-out documentation.
Contribute to drafting standards, templates and CAD libraries to improve consistency and efficiency.
Follow workplace health and safety procedures during site visits and in the office.
Requirements Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply.
AQF Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Construction Design, Engineering Drafting or a related field.
Minimum 2 years' experience as a Civil Engineering Draftsperson or in a closely related civil drafting role.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, and familiarity with civil design software such as Civil 3D or 12d Model.
Sound working knowledge of Australian Standards, the National Construction Code and local council and authority requirements for civil works.
Ability to interpret engineering calculations, survey data and design briefs, and to produce accurate levels, quantities and take-offs.
Understanding of residential and civil construction methods, including how civil works interface with structural steel and light gauge steel framing.
Solid document control and revision management skills, with close attention to detail.
Clear written and verbal communication skills for working with engineers, site teams, consultants and authorities.
Ability to manage several projects at once, prioritise competing deadlines and work under limited supervision.
Practical problem-solving skills and a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
Availability for occasional site visits across Melbourne.
