Profectus is seeking expressions of interest from experienced Data Scientists for future opportunities across the Australian Government. The work is likely to require building statistical and machine learning models on large administrative, claims and service data sets, detecting fraud, non-compliance and risk, and turning results into reports and tools for program and compliance teams.
Key Responsibilities
Develop statistical and machine learning models on large administrative data sets
Build anomaly detection, risk scoring and predictive models
Prepare, clean and engineer features from linked data sources
Validate, test and monitor model performance and bias
Present findings to program, policy and compliance teams in plain language
Build reusable analysis code and notebooks under version control
Work with data engineers on data pipelines and model deployment
Document methods, assumptions and model limitations
Apply privacy, ethics and data governance requirements to analysis work
Required Experience
Minimum five years in data science or advanced analytics roles
Python or R for statistical modelling and machine learning




SQL and working with large relational data sets
Supervised and unsupervised modelling, including anomaly detection
Model validation and performance monitoring
Presenting analysis to non-technical stakeholders
Working with sensitive or personal information
Health, claims, payments or welfare data
Fraud, compliance or integrity analytics
Cloud analytics platforms such as Azure Machine Learning, Databricks or SAS Viya
Data linkage and de-identified data sets
Tertiary qualification in statistics, mathematics, data science or a related field
Security Clearance Requirements
Must be an Australian Citizen
Must hold a current AGSVA Baseline Security Clearance (minimum)
