About Us
Q-Tek Mechanical Ductwork Pty Ltd (Q-Tek or the Company) is an Australian mechanical services contractor specialising in the design, fabrication, supply and installation of sheetmetal ductwork for heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems. The Company services commercial, industrial, institutional and infrastructure projects throughout Australia, delivering rectangular, round and oval ductwork, plenums, flashings, acoustic enclosures and associated sheetmetal componentry fabricated to AS 4254 and project specifications.

About the role
The Sheetmetal Worker is a qualified tradesperson responsible for marking out, assembling, installing and finishing sheetmetal ductwork and associated components used in HVAC and mechanical services installations. The role is performed partly in the Q-Tek workshop and partly on client construction sites, and requires the holder to interpret engineering drawings and specifications, and work safely as part of a trades team to deliver ductwork that meets Australian Standards and project requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Interpret engineering drawings, shop detail drawings, isometrics, specifications and HVAC schedules to determine materials, dimensions, tolerances and sequence of fabrication;
- Mark out and lay out sheetmetal flat patterns, developments and templates for rectangular, round, oval and transition ductwork, fittings and associated components;
- Calculate material requirements.
- Fabricate galvanised steel, stainless steel, aluminium and other sheet materials into ductwork, plenums, flashings, hoods, cowls, acoustic enclosures and ancillary HVAC components in accordance with AS 4254.1 and AS 4254.2 and project specifications;
- Form seams, locks, flanges, stiffeners and connections; braze, rivet, screw and seal joints as required;
- Fit insulation support pins, access panels, dampers, turning vanes, splitters and other internal and external accessories;




- Apply sealants, gaskets and surface protection as required to achieve specified air-tightness classifications.
- Install ductwork, plenums and fittings at height, in plant rooms, risers, ceiling spaces and external locations, including suspension from building structure using approved hangers, rods, brackets and seismic restraints;
- Carry out site modifications, cuts, patches and remedial work as required to accommodate services coordination and as-built conditions;
- Assist with duct leakage testing, pressure testing and commissioning support as directed.
- Handle and store sheet materials, consumables and tools so as to prevent damage, contamination and corrosion;

- Good verbal communication in English, including the ability to follow and give safety-critical instructions;
- Physical capacity to perform the inherent requirements of the role, including lifting, carrying, bending, working at heights and working in confined spaces;
- Willingness to travel to and work on construction sites, including occasional work outside ordinary hours as reasonably required;

Qualifications needed:

- Minimum Trade qualification certificate or equivalent relevant work experience
- Minimum one year of work experience on relevant position
- White card

Salary: The role offers a remuneration package ranging from $75,000-$105,000 plus superannuation for a 38-hour work week.
